Tesla Australia Offers FSD Transfer for Customers Buying New Models

Tesla Australia said on Tuesday that it is offering the transfer of Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Enhanced Autopilot to customers purchasing a new Tesla.

According to a post on X, customers must take delivery of the new vehicle by June 30 to be eligible for the transfer.

The brand is also offering a $3,000 Trade-In Bonus for customers purchasing the Model 3 and taking delivery before the end of June, and reduced pricing for inventory units of both Model Y and Model 3.

The Elon Musk-led company currently sells the Model 3 sedan and the refreshed Model Y SUV.

According to the country chief, Thom Drew, selling the Cybertruck in Australia has “always been on the radar” — however, there’s no concrete timeline for the model’s debut.

Orders for the Model X and Model S were opened in early 2021, with deliveries starting in 2022.

Sales were halted a year later, in April 2023, as the brand stopped producing right-hand drive units.

The Model S and Model X, which are rumoured to be revamped iterations later this year, will not be sold in the Australian market, according to current head of Tesla Australia, Thom Drew.

“From what I understand, there are some engineering difficulties in the vehicle that make it not possible to build it in right-hand drive,” Drew told local outlet Drive, adding that it “doesn’t appear” that the models will be available in the market “anytime soon.”

Tesla delivered nearly 4,000 units in the Australian market last month. From the 3,897 EVs, 3,580 were the refreshed Model Y — which started being rolled out in the country in early May.

Deliveries rose 9.3% year over year, with Model Y sales surging 122.5% due to its revamp. This marks a seven-fold jump from April, when only 500 units were sold.

April figures were largely due to the limited inventory of the outgoing Model Y, which accounted for 56% of Tesla’s sales in that month. Only 280 units of the SUV were delivered by then — the lowest monthly result since its Australian debut in late 2022.

May is the first month year to date when Tesla sold over 3,000 units. It was the brand’s best sales month in Australia since June last year.

However, year to date deliveries are still down 48.2% compared to the first five months of 2024.

In mid-May, Tesla showed footage from the tests of the supervised full self-driving (FSD) in the country. Australia became the first right-hand drive market to see the company’s assisted driving system.

The system expanded to China earlier this year and is expected to reach Europe later this year pending regulatory approvals.

Last week, Tesla China also announced on Weibo it is offering free Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Enhanced Autopilot transfer for customers purchasing a new Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X.

Tesla’s supervised FSD is available in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico and China, allowing its customers to drive “hands-off, eyes on” the road. It is available in the U.S. as a $99 monthly subscription or a single-payment of $8,000.
