Honda and Acura EVs Gain Access to Tesla Superchargers in Canada

Honda announced on Monday that EV owners of both its main brand and its premium Acura sub-brand can now access Tesla‘s Supercharging network in Canada.

The move is part of their plan to have approximately 100,000 DC fast-charging points available to their EV owners by 2030, including Tesla‘s, Ionna’s, and other open networks.

Honda — and Acura — models were originally equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS).

However, as the industry shifts to adapt the North American Charging Standard (NACS) — originally developed by Tesla — the Japanese company announced in July that it was adapting the charging system in the US.

By then, Honda and Acura had announced the immediate availability of NACS to CSS charging adapters, gaining access to “more than 23,500 Tesla Superchargers” in the US.

As of Monday, 1,500 more Superchargers are also available to Honda and Acura’s EV owners in Canada.

They can now access “more than 25,000” Tesla Superchargers across the continent.

The adapter will be available for purchase in authorized Honda and Acura dealerships in the country, with a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $400.

Honda recommends the use of approval adapters only when charging at Tesla Supercharger stations, as required by the US EV maker.

“Damage to a vehicle resulting from the use of an unapproved adapter may not be covered under vehicles’ limited warranties,” the company warned.

Initially, Honda and Acura EV owners will need the Tesla app to use its Superchargers.

In the future, this functionality will be integrated into Honda and Acura’s own apps.

“Owners can now use the standard in-vehicle Google built-in Maps capability to quickly locate authorized Supercharger locations,” the company stated.

The two Japanese companies currently sell the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX in North America.

The Honda Prologue SUV starts from $47,400 in the US and C$59,990 in its neighboring country.

The Acura ZDX is priced from $64,500, with a starting price of C$84,990 in Canada.
