Elon Musk Says Rivian Layoffs Are “Inevitable”

Earlier today, EV reported exclusively that the U.S. automaker Rivian started a new round of layoffs that was later confirmed to Reuters. Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk commented on X saying the move is “inevitable” for the Irvine-headquartered startup.

Rivian employees started on Wednesday afternoon updating their LinkedIn profiles to indicate their availability for new job opportunities. They mention being impacted by recent layoffs at Rivian.

In February of this year, Rivian announced a workforce reduction of 10 percent following similar layoffs of 6 percent in July 2022 and May 2023. Tesla issued an email on Monday to all employees announcing a reduction of over 10 percent in its global staff representing more than 14,000 employees. 

In an internal email, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk emphasized that “it is extremely important to look at every aspect of the company for cost reductions and increasing productivity”.
