Jaguar Type 01: New York Permit Shows Two-Day Shoot of EV Model

Parking near the New York venue for the Jaguar Type 01 reveal was suspended from Monday for a two-day film shoot registered under the car’s internal codename, a city notice posted online by an employee shows.

The notice names the project “X900 Launch” and lists Monday and Tuesday as shoot days, the second being the day of the reveal.

Jaguar has not disclosed the venue, and neither the engineer’s post nor the notice names the street.

A Jaguar store will open in London’s Knightsbridge on October 7, hours after the car is shown.

What the Notice Shows

“Exciting times, no parking near the NYC venue because a new Jaguar is in town,” Jon Darlington, Architecture Chief Engineer at Jaguar, wrote on LinkedIn.

His post carried a photo of a New York City no-parking notice headed “Film Shoot.”

X900 is the Type 01’s internal codename. The notice requires vehicles to be moved by 6 a.m. on October 5 and warns that those left will be towed.

The schedule on the notice means the shoot was due to start on Monday, a day before the event, and suggests the reveal is being filmed.

A London Store the Next Day

“Following the launch of Type 01, we’re opening the doors to the truest, purest Jaguar retail store environment ever created,” Christian Doyle, who says he has led the project at JLR, wrote on LinkedIn.

Doyle gave the opening date as October 7.

His photos show a covered shopfront at the corner of William Street carrying the Jaguar wordmark, the date “07.10.26” and the words “01 of a kind.”

Jaguar displayed the Type 00 at 91 Knightsbridge last December and said then that the showing previewed “a select number of exclusive brand stores for clients around the world.”

The Official Countdown

Jaguar will reveal the Type 01, the electric four-door grand tourer on which its relaunch depends, at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.

Its public materials do not say whether the event will be streamed.

Jaguar has also taken over the JPMorgan Chase screen in Times Square, on the corner of 42nd Street and 7th Avenue, in the days before the event.

The 30-metre (100-foot) display has shown two design elements of the car, a strikethrough graphic and a laser-etched version of the brand’s leaper emblem, in rotation every 15 minutes since October 2.

JLR Chief Commercial Officer Lennard Hoornik gave the only public description of the format when he announced the location at the group’s investor day on June 17.

“We will launch it… in a very, very special way,” he said, without elaborating.

A Second US Stage

The choice of New York makes this the second straight Jaguar world premiere held in the United States.

The Type 00 concept was shown in Miami during Art Week on December 2, 2024, also at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The Type 01 prototype made its North American debut at Monterey Car Week in August, ending at the Pebble Beach Concours on August 16.

JLR said on October 3 that US volumes “remain steady and continue to represent about a third of total wholesales.”

North America accounted for 27,100 of the group’s 82,400 wholesales in the three months to September 30, its largest region.

A Date That Moved Twice

The reveal comes 22 months after the Type 00 concept and about a year later than the company first indicated.

Jaguar said when it presented the Type 00 that the production car was “to be revealed in late 2025.” A release on March 31 this year said the car “will be revealed in September this year.”

Hoornik then named New York and October in June, and Jaguar set the date of October 6 on August 12.

The company’s releases give no reason for either change.

The Type 01 name was confirmed on May 13, and camouflaged prototypes lapped the Monaco circuit two days later, ahead of the Formula E race there.

What Jaguar Has Confirmed

Jaguar has released few hard figures ahead of the event.

It has said the car uses three motors that deliver “more than 1,000PS and over 1,300Nm of torque,” equal to about 986 horsepower.

The car sits on the Jaguar Electric Architecture, a platform developed for the brand, and Jaguar says it is designed, developed and “built in the heart of the UK.”

Jaguar said in December 2024 that the production model would target a range of up to 770 kilometres on the European WLTP cycle and 430 miles on the US EPA cycle, with 321 kilometres of charge added in as little as 15 minutes.

Those were targets, and the company has not yet published certified figures.

The interior was shown on August 12, with a central spine running the length of the cabin to create what Jaguar calls four individual spaces.

“Jaguar Type 01 is the first production car to follow our new creative philosophy,” said Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar.

Auto Express reported a 120 kWh battery, an 850-volt electrical system and a body 5.2 metres long.

Jaguar has not confirmed those figures in its releases.

Price and Orders

Jaguar has not announced a price or an on-sale date.

Glover told Auto Express that the entry price would be around £120,000 ($158,700), with the range centred on about £140,000 ($185,200).

The magazine reported that orders are expected to open before the end of the year, with customer cars due in summer 2027.

Glover said Jaguar can succeed at the higher price but called that “conditional.”

“It needs to be executed well, we need to offer an incredible level of service – which is a given – and it’s got to be great,” he said.

He sees a gap between the top premium brands and the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, which the magazine put at £280,000 ($370,300) and above.

“There is a space for us to be in,” Glover said.

What Rides on the Night

The brand’s wholesales fell to 800 vehicles in the three months to September 30 from 1,519 a year earlier, and retail sales fell to 800 from 6,910.

JLR described the launch as following “a planned wind down of outgoing Jaguar models over the past year.”

The last combustion-engined Jaguar, an F-Pace, left the Solihull production line on December 19, 2025.

The brand remains electric-only and in January denied a report that it was planning range-extender models.

JLR Chief Executive Officer PB Balaji said at the investor day that “the kind of performance attributes we want Jaguar to perform against can be delivered only through an electric” drivetrain.

The stakes extend to the retail network, after German dealers questioned the business case for the brand in January.

Glover told The Times in an interview published on Saturday that the relaunch “couldn’t be more British.”

The newspaper reported that the carmaker is preparing to invest £6.5 billion ($8.6 billion) in the UK over the next two years.

The parent company is also cutting costs, having opened a voluntary redundancy scheme last month as it targets about £1.7 billion ($2.2 billion) of savings over two years.

The rebrand that preceded the concept in November 2024 drew wide criticism, including from Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, who asked whether Jaguar still sold cars, and from US President Donald Trump, who called it a “total disaster”.

Tuesday will show the production exterior for the first time without camouflage.

Jaguar has not said whether final specifications, pricing or market timing will be disclosed on the night.
