Stellantis NV said Thursday it will temporarily lay off 900 workers across five US facilities and pause production at two North American assembly plants as the US 25% tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts become effective.

“We are continuing to assess the medium- and long-term effects of these tariffs on our operations, but also have decided to take some immediate actions,” Chief Operating Officer Antonio Filosa wrote in an email to employees. “This includes temporarily pausing production at some of our Canadian and Mexican assembly plants.”

The company did not specify when the US layoffs will begin or how long they will last.
