RAM Delays Launch of BEV Pickup Truck to Prioritize Extended Range Version

Stellantis brand RAM said on Wednesday that it is delaying the launch of its fully electric pickup truck to 2026 as it prioritizes the extended-range variant Ramcharger.

To justify the delay of the pure electric version, RAM mentioned “slowing industry demand for half-ton BEV pickups” while noting “overwhelming consumer interest” for the extended range version. The Ram 1500 Ramcharger will have a combined range of up to 690 miles.

The brand, which was launched as a Stellantis division in 2009, said that both versions will be primarily produced at the Sterling Heights plant in Michigan.

“We’re excited to announce the decision to pull launch timing of the range-extended Ram 1500 Ramcharger ahead of Ram 1500 REV,”Stellantis posted on social media earlier this Wednesday. “Ramcharger will be open for orders in the first half of 2025, followed by the Ram 1500 REV in 2026.”

Stellantis applied last week to rejoin the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) after leaving the organization at the end of 2022. The return comes less than a week after the departure of the group’s CEO Carlos Tavares.
