Rivian is estimated to have sold 3,606 vehicles in the United States in December, according to data published by Motor Intelligence on Monday.
The figures represent a 5% decline from the final month of 2024, when 3,795 units were registered.
On a sequential basis, the decline was steeper at 20%.
While automakers typically see sales increase in the final month of the year, Rivian‘s sales fell by about 900 vehicles, dropping from roughly 4,500 units in November.
Its main competitors, Tesla and Lucid Motors, saw registrations rise month over month in December, with the latter reaching its best-ever sales month in the US.
The Elon Musk-led company also saw registrations fall about 16% compared with the same month last year.
Rivian‘s monthly figures increased year over year in May, October, and November, posting declines in the other nine months, according to the estimates.
The brand’s founder and CEO, RJ Scaringe, said earlier this year that the company expected the third quarter to be its “strongest,” anticipating weaker final months.
Quarterly sales declined by about 500 units compared with the previous three months.
However, the period from September to December marked the only quarter with year-over-year growth — the figures increased by 12% compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, with 12,050 vehicles sold.
Motor Intelligence data shows that Rivian sold a total of 46,815 vehicles in 2025, a decline of 12.5% from 2024, when 53,504 units were registered.
Deliveries
After reiterating its full-year production target of 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles in mid-September, Rivian revised that estimate a month later to a narrower range of 41,500 to 43,500 units.
Last week, the company reported deliveries of 9,745 EVs in the fourth quarter and a total of 42,247 units in 2025.
These figures include both deliveries in the United States and Canada, where the company’s vehicles are currently available for purchase.
Rivian is planning to expand its presence to Europe with the upcoming R2 SUV, which is scheduled to launch this year.
The model will be built in both its main Normal plant and the upcoming facility in Georgia, for which the company broke ground in September.
Lineup and Discounts
The 2026 R1S Dual-Motor Standard variant is priced at $76,990, while the 2026 R1T pickup begins at $70,990.
Up until the end of November, the company offered $2,800 off any new R1S or R1T when customers accepted a trade-in estimate — the promotion was not extended in December, unlike other offers.
The company kept financing rates as low as 1.99% annual percentage rate for 60 months on select R1 vehicles and lease offers starting at $699 per month.
Autonomy Update
Shortly after its ‘Autonomy & AI Day’ event, held in early December, Rivian launched a major software update, which included the expansion of its Autonomy platform coverage by 24 times to 3.5 million miles of marked roads.
In the company’s “hands-off, eyes-on” feature, which it now calls ‘Universal Hands-Free,’ the vehicle operates both on and off highways as long as “the lane lines are clearly marked.”
Rivian extended the free trial of Autonomy+ for its Gen 2 customers, from “early 2025 to “late 2025.” As of late December, all vehicles purchased include a 60-day trial of Rivian Autonomy+.
Starting in February, customers can subscribe to the platform for $49.99 per month or purchase it outright for $2,500.
