Rivian, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has updated its Canadian website to reveal the pricing for its upcoming, smaller, and more affordable R2 model.

The new model will start at CAD $66,500, which is approximately USD $48,100, making it about $3,100 more expensive than its US counterpart, priced at $45,000.

The R2 is a smaller and cheaper version of the existing R1 lineup and deliveries for the R2 are slated to commence in the first half of 2026.

In a note on the website, Rivian has stated that the features, options, and digital displays showcased on the website are subject to change as the final production of the vehicle approaches.

European markets, including the UK and Germany, are planned to receive the model in 2027, according to the Rivian website. Last October, the company opened its first service center in Europe.

Located in Düsseldorf, Germany is located two hours from Rivian’s EU Parts Distribution Centre in the Netherlands and is focused on “servicing EDV’s for our Amazon partners and around the city,” according to a statement.

During Rivian’s third annual Family and Friends Day last weekend, a company executive disclosed that the R2 model has already garnered “well over 100,000 pre-orders.”

Tim Fallon, Rivian’s Vice President of Manufacturing, highlighted also that recent equipment upgrades have increased production capacity by approximately 30%, paving the way for the R2’s production.

In an interview with The Verge’s podcast “Decoder,” Rivian’s founder and CEO, Scaringe, said the company will not integrate Apple CarPlay into its vehicles.

The software is integrated into over 800 models from more than 20 brands including Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Hyundai, and Lucid Motors.

Earlier this month, the company introduced an automated online tool for trade-in estimates applicable to electric vehicles (EVs) but also to internal combustion engines (ICEs) and Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

Owners of Rivian vehicles or other brands, including trucks and vans, can now submit their vehicle for evaluation using either the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or the license plate number, as initially shared by the Rivian owner Chris Hilbert on X.

The company has recently started the rollout of its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2024.23, for both R1 models (R1S and R1T) from the second generation.

The OTA update marks the debut of the Rivian Autonomy Platform, a suite of advanced driver assistance features. One of them is the “Lane Change on Command” feature, which allows the vehicle to perform lane changes when the turn signal is activated while Highway Assist is engaged.
