Rivian to Offer Eight Exterior Colors for R2 SUV, Leak Shows

The exterior colors for Rivian’s upcoming R2 have been leaked less than 48 hours before the model’s official launch.

Full details — including pricing, trims, and colors — will be revealed on the first day of the 2026 SXSW Music Festival & Conference, scheduled to begin on Thursday (March 12) through March 18.

Images shared on the Rivian Forum on Wednesday revealed a list of color names that were spotted in a presentation being prepared inside Rivian‘s showroom in Austin.

The leaked list includes Catalina Cove, Esker Silver, Half Moon Grey, Borealis, Midnight, Forest Green, Launch Green, and Glacier White.

Of the eight colors spotted, Glacier White, Midnight (black), and the two green shades are already familiar from Rivian’s R1 models.

The presence of Borealis also confirms that the color has been carried over to the R2 after being introduced as a limited-edition option for the R1T and R1S late last year.

However, it remains unclear whether the purple color will be offered as a permanent color choice for the R2 or if it will again be available only for a limited time.

First Colors Revealed

Rivian has confirmed only one exterior color for the model so far — a white finish shown as the company announced that the Launch Edition R2 will be a dual-motor variant.

As the media embargo for R2 reviews was lifted on February 10, several social media users have begun noticing the vehicle colors hidden below the protective wrap.

In addition to the white finish, a subtle blue tone could be seen under the covers in a video published by tech reviewer Marques Brownlee — who is also known as MKBHD.

Rivian Colors

Rivian introduced itself to the world with the R1S and R1T models, available from the start to configure in a wide range of colors besides its Launch Green.

The original palette included Rivian Blue, Glacier White, El Cap Granite, Red Canyon, Limestone, Midnight, Forest Green, and LA Silver (which later became the standard color).

Rivian‘s founder and CEO RJ Scaringe told Access earlier this year that the company chose a design language “that’s more calming or more approachable.”

“I think culturally and from a societal point of view, a lot of people are drawn to that. Something that feels timeless, it’s not too aggressive, it’s not trying too hard,” he stated.

Earlier this year, the company announced that the Launch Green has evolved to become ‘Rivian Green,’ in a partnership with Pantone.

The color has been used as a starting point for how Rivian shows up in “spaces, events, partnerships, and everywhere else.”

It remains unclear whether the new Rivian Green may be available for configuration with the R2, replacing what is called the Launch Green in the presentation.

Upon announcing the color, the EV maker only referred to the upcoming model once, stating that the color “marks a significant step as Rivian prepares to reach even more people with the addition of R2.”

Limited Editions

Rivian has released several limited editions centered around specific colors for the R1 models.

It started with the ‘California Dune,’ a sand-painted edition of both its R1S and R1T Tri-motor vehicles.

The company didn’t reveal the production numbers for each model; however, the price remained the same as the standard colored Tri-Motor options.

Then, late last year, Rivian released a purple exterior color called Borealis.

The color was based on Alaska’s Northern Lights, also referred to as ‘Aurora Borealis,’ and is available for a limited time for both the R1S and R1T models.

Additionally, the company has introduced a limited 10-unit run of the ‘Miami Edition,’ its first location-based limited edition, featuring white paint with bluish accents.

Current Colors

Besides the recently launched Rivian Green and Borealis, the company currently offers LA Silver, Glacier White, Forest Green, El Cap Granite, Midnight, and Rivian Blue.

Compass Yellow, which Rivian‘s brand logo bears, used to be offered for configuration. It was permanently discontinued in 2023 amid low demand.

When the second-generation R1 models were launched in 2024, Storm Blue was added — although only available to Tri and Quad-motor trims.

Rivian reduced its color palette when introducing 2026 model year vehicles last year, discontinuing Limestone and Red Canyon.

Internal sources told Riviantrackr that Red Canyon will be returning this year, without specifying whether it will be available to R1 models or in the new R2 — or to both models.

However, and according to the presentation that leaked on Wednesday, it will not be available with the R2 from the start.
