Rivian to Launch Mobile Support Service in Europe, Job Posting Shows

Rivian is planning to launch its mobile support service in Europe, ahead of its expansion to the continent with the upcoming R2 model in 2027.

According to a job posting listed on its website, the EV maker is looking for Mobile Automotive Mechatronics Technicians based in the German city of Munich.

The first Rivian commercial vans were first seen in Germany two years ago as part of the 2019 deal with its major shareholder, Amazon.

These technicians will service Rivian fleet customers directly at their location, through a Mobile Service vehicle fleet — which is composed of the company’s electric delivery vans since 2023.

According to the role description, Mobile Technicians “collaborate daily with internal partners to meet service needs, working closely with our Service, Vehicle Delivery, and Field Service Engineering teams.”

The job post was first reported by Rivian‘s owner and enthusiast Chris Hilbert.

In North America, the service offers support through its ‘Service Platform’, a ‘Remote Care’ program, ‘Mobile Service,’ and its physical Service Centers.

‘Remote Care’ uses sensors and a diagnostics platform, through which the company is “able to proactively identify and resolve many issues” from the distance.

The Rivian ‘Service Platform’ connects the vehicle and the company’s Service Team through the mobile app.

The company is also expanding its Service Center network across North America. It currently has 62 locations in the US and four in Canada, with 29 upcoming ones.

One of them is in Scottsdale, Arizona, for which the company is currently seeking zoning approval.

Rivian is expecting to enter Europe in two years, after the launch of the more affordable R2 SUV in its domestic market in the first half of 2026.

According to founder and CEO RJ Scaringe, the SUV was developed as a global product.

Last month, Scaringe stated Rivian “already has some footprint in Europe today,” referring to its partnership with Amazon, its main backer.

Since 2023, the EV maker has “over 300” electric delivery vans operating in Europe, in service of Amazon, to which it committed to deliver 100,000 vans by 2030.

The two companies stated then that they have “designed a shorter, thinner van than its US counterpart, in order to better fit in Europe’s cities.”

The vehicles are used to “deliver packages across major cities including Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf.”

By the time, Rivian has also revealed that its Mobile Service, previously operated with R1T units, would start being provided through adapted delivery vans, named Rivian Service Vans.

The company predicted to have “more than 200 Rivian Service Vans and nearly 100 R1Ts in the field” by the end of 2023.

The vehicles have a cargo capacity of about 500 cubic feet (about 14 cubic meters), and are fit with “a wheel balancer, automatic tire changer, air compressor, hydraulic jack and stands,” and a “dedicated 240v outlet to provide vehicle-to-vehicle charging.”
