Rivian to Launch Gen 2 Quad-Motor R1T and R1S on July 8

EV maker Rivian said on Wednesday that it will launch the Quad-Motor version of its Gen 2 R1T and R1S models next Sunday, July 8.

The announcement was made on X shortly after Rivian reported a 23% year-on-year drop in Q2 vehicle sales, with the company posting: “It’ll stop you in your tracks. Turn you in ‘em too. R1 Quad Launch Edition arrives July 8.”

In an email sent on Wednesday, the EV maker wrote: “Countdown initiated – T-minus 5 days: Motors are primed. Systems are green. It’s almost go time. R1 Quad Launch Edition arrives July 8 with a special, limited run for those ready to reach escape velocity.”

“Reserve yours by July 7 and standby for launch — we’ll let you know the moment ordering opens,” the company added.

Last month, tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) had inadvertently revealed Rivian’s upcoming 2026 R1T Quad Motor pickup in a now-deleted video posted on X.

The Rivian Quad R1 was certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last month. The agency estimated a range of about 359 miles (577 km) in “Conserve” mode and 315 miles (506 km) in “All-Purpose” mode.

The truck shown featured 22-inch Ultra High Performance wheels, a returning “Launch Green” color exclusive to the Quad trim, and unique teal badging and brake calipers.

The brand’s post on X this Wednesday included a video that suggested that the “Tank Turn” feature, previously canceled in 2023, may be coming back in the 2025 R1.

The Quad versions use four independent electric motors — one for each wheel — which allows them to mimic the movement of a tracked vehicle by spinning the left and right wheels in opposite directions.

Last month, Rivian unveiled the prices for the 2026 iterations of its two models.

The 2026 R1S Dual-Motor Standard variant will start at $76,990, while the 2026 R1T pickup begins at $70,990. However, pricing details for the Quad-Motor iterations have not been revealed.

Earlier on Wednesday, Rivian reported second quarter deliveries of 10,661 units. The figures showed a 22.7% drop year over year.

The company reiterated its 2025 delivery guidance and expects figures to range between 40,000 and 46,000 vehicles, indicating it estimates to deliver between 20,699 and 26,699 in the second half of the year.

Rivian noted that “production was limited during the second quarter,” when it manufactured 5,979 vehicles, down 37.8% year over year, “in preparation for model year 2026 vehicles expected to launch later this month.”

The automaker’s R2 SUV, priced from $45,000, is scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2026.

As of the time of writing, Rivian is trading 1.9% lower at $13.20 on Wednesday’s market session. The stock lost 9.80% of its value in the past twelve months.
