Rivian is preparing to integrate Google Cast in its next update, the company’s Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid revealed in an event held at Rivian’s Venice showroom.
In May, the electric vehicle maker announced the arrival of both apps, aiming to “seamlessly bring your favorite entertainment right into your R1’s center display.” In the 2024.47 update, Rivian will allow users to browse, search, and play videos directly on their vehicle’s display through a dedicated YouTube tab.
Here’s a video shared by Rivian showcasing the Google Cast feature.
Bensaid said Rivian will launch Text-to-Speech Messaging next year while the tire size configuration and the manual DC fast charge preconditioning features are expected to become available in the first quarter of 2025, as initially reported by Rivian Trackr.
Rivian and Volkswagen Group announced last week the official launch of their joint venture, revealing that the total deal size had increased from $5 billion to $5.8 billion, with operations having officially started on November 13.
Commenting on the recently launched partnership with the VW Group, Bensaid said,“The idea is to standardize complex platform software while allowing brands to retain their uniqueness.”
Rivian’s electrical architecture and software technology stack will be used across several future models of the Volkswagen Group with the first ones expected to be launched in early 2027.
Earlier this week, the electric vehicle maker announced the former Stellantis veteran Krishna Bandaru as its new Vice-President of Manufacturing Engineering. Bandaru will lead the team to improve productivity, increase manufacturing efficiency, optimize capital expenditures, and reduce launch time.
