Rivian has made a habit of rolling out a Halloween-themed software update in late October, giving owners access to seasonal features and customizations.
The EV maker announced on Tuesday that it has begun rolling out the latest software update — 2025.38 — in which the thematic features will be available from October 21 to November 1.
It introduces a swamp-themed “Car Costume,” which Rivian says is “a fun illustration of how software can bring new features, capabilities, and even a little bit of magic to your R1 vehicle.”
Inside the cabin, the vehicle “can set the mood with four new music tracks and trigger six short, spooky sound effects to surprise passengers.”
Here’s the video shared by Rivian this Tuesday.
Additionally, Gen 2 owners can choose from four modes of exterior light and sound effects, activated manually or through the “Motion” function, which causes the vehicle to react automatically whenever someone nears it.
“Gen 2 vehicles will also feature flickery, overhead cabin lighting for extra swampy ambiance,” the company announced on a new a blog post.
Other features include a “Halloween makeover” in the All-Purpose drive mode, which will change the environment on the center display to a swamp, available in both day and night modes.
Rivian owners can change their “lock sound to a croaking Bog Frog” in the vehicle’s access settings and add a “Swampy Gear Guard” to the rear screens.
Last year’s Halloween-themed update included references to the film ‘Back to the Future’ (1985), with owners being able to turn their vehicle into a time machine and the Gear Guard into Doc Brown.
For 2025, Rivian says the update is inspired by a real R1S owner whose “Real Rivian Adventure” story was featured on the company’s blog.
According to the post, the owner and his friends found themselves surrounded by alligators while exploring Bayou Country inside a R1S vehicle.
The 2025.38 software update will also introduce “Plug & Charge,” with Electrify America and Ionna’s charging networks.
The feature allows the Rivian owner to automatically charge at a station as soon as the charger is connected.
The in-vehicle navigation and the Rivian mobile app will also be able to suggest available chargers and show what is their power levels.
Other improvements include bug fixes and “Climate Hold,” a new setting that runs the climate system for a set amount of period after the driver leaves the vehicle.
