Electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian started on Tuesday the rollout of its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2024.23, for both R1 models (R1S and R1T) from the second generation.
The OTA update marks the debut of the Rivian Autonomy Platform, a suite of advanced driver assistance features. One of them is the “Lane Change on Command” feature, which allows the vehicle to perform lane changes when the turn signal is activated while Highway Assist is engaged.
A free trial of the Rivian Autonomy Platform+ is available through 2024, inclusive of the Lane Change on Command feature, the company stated in the notes of the 2024.23 version.
The update also simplifies vehicle access with a new “Press to Unlock” function, enabling drivers to unlock the vehicle by pressing a sensor on the driver-side door handle, provided proximity locking is turned off and the phone key is present.
Additionally, Rivian has introduced a “New Roadside Lighting” feature, enhancing safety by allowing roadside lighting to animate and direct traffic around the parked vehicle.
Several improvements are included in the update, such as updated exterior lighting charging animation, enhanced exterior lighting welcome animation, and automatic reversal of the liftgate or hood if an obstacle is detected.
Additionally, Rivian solved an issue with window calibration that could prevent complete closure. The list of additional improvements include about two dozens of items.
As reported earlier today, Rivian‘s Chief People Officer Helen Russell has recently quit after spending nearly five years at the company.
Earlier this week, CEO RJ Scaringe has filed a Form 144 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposing the sale of 71,429 shares of common stock.
Over the past three months, Scaringe has filed notices for two prior proposed sales of Rivian common stock, each involving 71,429 shares. According to the form filed on Monday, gross proceeds from the sale amount up to $1.62 million.
Last Friday, the company announced last Friday its Chief Accounting Officer Jeffrey Baker has resigned to pursue another career opportunity.
The resignation will take effect later this month, on July 27, as Baker continues in his current role to ensure a smooth transition.
Earlier in the week, the German media outlet Handelsblatt reported that Rivian and Volkswagen were in discussions to extend their recently announced software partnership into hardware collaboration and joint production.
However, when contacted by Reuters, the US-based electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian stated that it has no plans to produce vehicles with Volkswagen Group.
Volkswagen Group said recently it was set to invest up to $5 billion in the US-based electric vehicle maker Rivian to leverage its technology and form a joint venture.
