Rivian Raises R1T, R1S Prices as 25% Tariffs Take Effect

Rivian raised prices on its Dual-Motor R1T and R1S models by $1,000 over the weekend, days after new U.S. tariffs on imported electric vehicles and auto parts came into effect.

The Dual-Motor R1S now starts at $83,900, while the R1T begins at $77,900, as initially reported by X user Chris Hilbert. Pricing for the Dual Standard and Tri-Motor variants remains unchanged.

The move comes shortly after a 25% tariff on imported vehicles and components, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, became effective on April 3. While it’s unclear whether the price increases are directly related to the tariffs, a March drone flyover showed Rivian’s lot stocked with Amazon delivery vans and other vehicles built before the tariff deadline, potentially shielding them from the added cost.

Rivian manufactures its vehicles exclusively in the U.S.; however, some components are imported from overseas, making them subject to the 25% tariff.

A Rivian spokesperson approached EV on Tuesday afternoon noting that the adjustment was “a correction of an erroneous value in one place on the Rivian website,” adding it “was updated to show consistent pricing across the site.”

“There is no news here. This is not a new or incremental increase – there was a $1,000 price adjustment on Dual Large models last quarter. The adjustment in question was a correction of an erroneous value in one place on the Rivian website, and was updated to show consistent pricing across the site,” the company said in a statement.

The Dual Standard trim of the R1S starts at $75,900 in the U.S., while the Dual Large is priced at $83,900. The Tri Max trim begins from $105,900.

Separately, Rivian faced on Monday a small fire in a battery module at its plant in Normal, Illinois, leaving no injuries.

“No one was injured when a battery module caught fire this afternoon in the plant. We are investigating the cause of the fire, which was extinguished by employees. Production was not affected,” the company said in a statement.

CEO RJ Scaringe shared earlier in the dayphotos of the battery pack for the upcoming R2 model, which will use LG-supplied cells. “Our R2 battery pack is made up of three large modules that have 256 cells each for a total of 768 cells per pack,” Scaringe wrote on social media. “The pack is a structural part of the body and the top of the pack is also a portion of the floor of the vehicle.”

Rivian produced 14,611 vehicles and delivered 8,640 units in the first quarter of 2025, slightly above guidance of 14,000 and 8,000 respectively. The company reaffirmed its full-year delivery target of 46,000 to 51,000 vehicles.

Compared with the same quarter last year, deliveries fell 36% from 13,588 units, while production rose 4.5% from 13,980.

Based on the first quarter figures, the company expects to deliver between 37,360 and 42,360 electric vehicles between April and December.

The Irvine-based EV maker said it will report its first quarter earnings results on May 6th after the market close.
