Rivian R1T US Sales Drop 47% in Q2, R1S Down 24%

Rivian sold 10,599 vehicles in the US during the second quarter of 2025, including 7,898 consumer vehicles under its R1 lineup and 2,701 electric commercial vans, according to new data published Monday by Cox Automotive.

Combined sales of the R1T pickup and R1S SUV fell 31% year-on-year in Rivian’s home market, with both models posting double-digit declines.

The R1S was Rivian‘s best-selling model during the quarter, with 6,146 units delivered — down 24.5% from the same period in 2024. The R1T saw a sharper decline, with US sales falling 47.1% to 1,752 units.

By contrast, sales of the company’s electric delivery vans rose 22.4% year-on-year, partially offsetting the drop in consumer vehicle volumes.

In total, Rivian sold 19,152 vehicles in the US in the first half of 2025, including 14,982 R1 vehicles, according to the Cox Automotive data.

Rivian recently unveiled the prices for the 2026 iterations of its two R1 models. The 2026 R1S Dual-Motor Standard variant will start at $76,990, while the 2026 R1T pickup begins at $70,990.

Last week, the company launched the second-generation quad-motor R1S and R1T.

R1T pricing for the Gen 2 Quad begins at $115,990 in the US and C$190,990 in Canada, while the R1S starts at $121,990 (C$201,990). Deliveries of the Launch Edition set to begin later this month.

Cox Automotive revealed that Rivian registered 2,701 commercial electric vans in the second quarter, up 22.4% from a year ago, and a total of 4,170 between January and June.

The Irvine-based company listed 347 more vans in the first half of 2024.

Earlier this year, Rivian said that “as a result of the increased deliveries to Amazon in the fourth quarter, we expect to deliver a lower volume of EDVs in 2025 as compared to 2024.”

Last year, it delivered 13,560 vans to Amazon.

Rivian, which has agreed to supply the Jeff Bezos-led firm with 100,000 electric vans by 2030, delivered approximately 10,000 additional vans to the company during the first half of 2025.

The retail giant’s US delivery fleet now includes over 30,000 electric vehicles, an increase from the 20,000 reported at the end of 2024.

The EV maker produced 5,979 vehicles in the second quarter, falling both sequentially (from 14,611 units) and year over year (from 9,612).

According to the company, production “was limited during the second quarter in preparation for model year 2026 vehicles expected to launch later this month.”

Rivian is also preparing to halt production temporarily as it prepares to accommodate the production of the upcoming R2 SUV, set to launch in the first half of 2026 and to be priced around $45,000.
