U.S. electric vehicle maker Rivian has promoted Marina Hoffmann from vice president and head of communications to chief communications officer (CCO).
Hoffmann succeeds Sarah O’Brien, who previously served as Rivian’s Chief Communications Officer between mid-2023 and last Summer.
O’Brien, a former Vice President of Communications at Tesla and former VP of Product Communications at Meta, left the company last August after eleven months in the role.
Hoffmann, who according to her LinkedIn profile took on the CCO role this month, has been with Rivian for almost three years.
She joined the Irvine, California-based company in late 2022 as Senior Director of Corporate Communications and has served as Vice President, Corporate and Employee Communications & Experience, and most recently Vice President, Head of Communications.
“Marina Hoffmann leads the Communications organization at Rivian,” the company says on its website. “This work involves leading campaigns to increase brand and product awareness, partnering with the team to mitigate risk and enhance the company’s reputation, telling our story internally by engaging our most important asset – our employees, and managing our creative content storytelling.”
Prior to joining Rivian, Hoffmann spent 14 years at American Express, most recently as Vice President of Corporate Affairs, where she led high-profile communication strategies and crisis management initiatives.
In April, the company added Aidan Gomez, co-founder and CEO of enterprise AI firm Cohere, to its board of directors.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this week certified Rivian’s 2026 quad-motor R1T pickup and R1S SUV, with documents showing the 2026 R1S Quad Max on 22-inch Ultra High Performance wheels has an estimated range of about 359 miles in Conserve mode and 315 miles in All-Purpose mode.
