Rivian Picks Atlanta for East Coast HQ, Plans 500 Jobs at New Site

Rivian said on Thursday it will establish a new East Coast headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of its broader investment in the state, where the electric vehicle maker is also building a its second manufacturing plant.

The new office will open in late 2025 and expand further in 2026 alongside construction progress at Rivian’s planned factory in Social Circle, east of Atlanta.

The company will occupy the top floor and lobby of Portman Holdings’ Junction Krog District building at 667 Auburn Avenue NE, near the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail.

Rivian expects to employ about 100 people at the new site by the end of next year and up to 500 once the headquarters is fully operational.

The California-based company has committed to a $5 billion investment in Georgia, including the development of a 7,500-worker plant at Stanton Springs North.

The announcement comes days after Rivian said it would open an artificial intelligence and autonomous driving research hub in London—its first site in the United Kingdom. The office will focus on enhancing the company’s autonomous technologies, including its hands-free highway driving system.

Rivian described the UK as “rapidly becoming a world leader in artificial intelligence engineering talent” and said it plans to host an AI and Autonomy Day later this year to detail its technology roadmap.

In December 2022, Rivian opened a research and development center in Belgrade, Serbia, focused on vehicle software, driver assistance systems, and enterprise technologies.

The company is also preparing to open a new U.S. facility in Milpitas, California, later this year, which will combine R&D, production, and operational functions.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
