Rivian Introduces New Green Color in Collaboration With Pantone

Rivian announced on Tuesday that it has co-developed a new green color named ‘Rivian Green’ with Pantone.

The color is expected to be available in the upcoming R2 SUV, for which production is scheduled to begin in the first half of the year.

While no specific timeline has been unveiled yet, the company announced late last week that it had completed validation builds of the model.

According to Rivian, the new color is “inspired by the green tones found in our manufacturing process” and “balances the tension between engineering and nature, evolving our original Launch Green into an enduring pillar of the brand.”

From ‘Launch Green’ to ‘Rivian Green’

In a blog post, the company stated that the story of Rivian Green started “on the factory floor,” during the early development states of its R1 models.

“As we explored our color lineup, our team became infatuated with the vehicles that had been dipped in E-coat — the electrified, protective primer dip every chassis receives before its final color is applied,” they said.

The company noted that “what began as a manufacturing necessity evolved into what became Launch Green, our debut color and handshake with the world.”

The color has been used as a starting point for how Rivian shows up in “spaces, events, partnerships, and everywhere else.”

The new green-toned color, nuanced by Pantone, “marks a significant step as Rivian prepares to reach even more people with the addition of R2.”

Rivian Color Scheme

Rivian Green is included in a palette featuring LA Silver, Glacier White, Forest Green, El Cap Granite, Midnight, Rivian Blue, and Storm Blue.

Launch Green remains available exclusively on Quad-Motor variants.

Rivian reduced its color palette when introducing 2026 model year vehicles last year, discontinuing Limestone and Red Canyon.

However, the company said Red Canyon will be returning this year, without specifying whether it will be available to R1 models or in the new R2 — or to both models.

Compass Yellow, which Rivian‘s brand logo bears, used to be offered for configuration. It was permanently discontinued in 2023 amid low demand.

Limited Editions

Rivian has previously released limited editions of its R1 models that are centered around specific colors.

It started with the ‘California Dune Edition,’ a sand-painted edition of both its R1S and R1T Tri-motor vehicles.

The company didn’t reveal the production numbers for each model; however, the price remained the same as the standard colored Tri-Motor options.

Then, late last year, Rivian released a purple exterior color called ‘Borealis.’

The color was based on Alaska’s Northern Lights, also referred to as ‘Aurora Borealis,’ and is available for a limited time for both the R1S and R1T models.

The company has not said whether the ‘Borealis’ purple will be an optional color for the upcoming R2, as the vehicle’s exterior color options have not yet been revealed.

Additionally, the company has introduced a limited 10-unit run of the ‘Miami Edition,’its first location-based limited edition, featuring white paint with bluish accents.

Rivian Design Colors

In a conversation with Access late last week, Rivian‘s founder and CEO RJ Scaringe discussed the company’s design language and color choices.

According to Scaringe, Rivian has a design language “that’s more calming or more approachable.”

“I think culturally and from a societal point of view, a lot of people are drawn to that. Something that feels timeless, it’s not too aggressive, it’s not trying too hard,” he stated.

It differentiates the brand from other EV makers, such as Tesla, which goes for bolder, cool-toned colors.

“The Tesla brand and the Rivian brand are so different, and manifest so differently across every aspect,” the CEO commented, adding that it happens “whether it’s our retail locations, the events we run, the way our products look, design choices we make.”
