Rivian Expands Commercial Van Customer Base With Illinois Service Firm

A Rivian electric delivery van was spotted in Illinois on Tuesday, where the EV maker’s factory is located.

The sighting confirms that local businesses have begun placing orders for the model since the EV maker opened sales to commercial customers a year ago.

The image was shared on a Rivian-focused Facebook group by Tony Sweeney and shows a Wm. Masters, Inc.-branded EDV 500, the smaller trim of the model.

Wm. Masters is a maintenance and repair company located in Bloomington, Illinois — just about 25 minutes away from Normal.

The family-owned company has been in business for 50 years, and provides electrical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning services in Central Illinois.

In August, Wm. Masters announced that it had added “a Rivian van” to its fleet.

“So excited to announce Wm. Masters Inc. is the first customer to purchase a Rivian fleet van from the facility here in Normal,” they wrote on Facebook, adding that they were “looking forward to serving the community in our sharp new ride!”

Asked by EV on how many electric vans it had acquired, the company declined to disclose.

EDV Customers

Rivian opened orders for both its EDV 500 and 700 to businesses exactly a year ago, expanding its reach beyond Amazon, which bought 100,000 electric delivery vans from the company in 2019.

Since February 2025, the brand has officially announced its first client, HelloFresh, and a deal with the pizza delivery firm Slice.

In mid-October, a Rivian electric delivery van bearing a Cintas Corp. logo was spotted, suggesting the US uniform and safety supplier may be testing the vehicle or has become a commercial fleet customer.

Global logistics giant DHL was seen piloting Rivian’s vans in mid-2024, though no purchase agreement has been announced.

EDV 500 x 700

For new customers, the vans are priced from $79,900 and $83,900, depending on the size.

They offer an estimated range of 160 miles (420 km) and a space range of approximately 487 cubic feet (13.8 cubic meters) and 652 cubic feet (18.5 cubic meters), respectively.

While the vans initially developed for the retail giant were the larger sized EDV 700, Rivian launched the smaller-sized EDV 500 in 2023.

Both Amazon and Rivian said then that they had “designed a shorter, thinner van than its US counterpart, in order to better fit in Europe’s cities.”

The EDV 500 is also used internally by its Mobile Service, a support service for vehicle owners that meets them at their location, including both passenger vehicle and commercial fleet customers.

Units of the EDV 500 were spotted in Amazon’s grounds in Indiana late last year, sparking debate about whether these would be supplied to service partners of the retail giant.

EDV Sales in 2025

Last year, Rivian delivered at least 15,000 EDVs to Amazon, considering the retail giant’s disclosures.

However, sales figures revealed by Cox Automotive earlier this week showed, however, that the number of EDVs registered across the US in 2025 fell 27% year over year to just under 10,000 units.

Last September, the company’s founder and CEO RJ Scaringe admitted that the electrification of the commercial business has “gone slower than we thought it would.”

Despite that, the executive said he expects that “the commercial space will electrify” until 2030.

Last month, a Rivian commercial van variant featuring side windows was spotted in Illinois by X user ‘EVguyZach,’ who regularly monitors the Normal facility.

The current vans — available to purchase from Rivian and operated by Amazon — have windows in the rear, since the back area is fitted with shelves.

Rivian enthusiasts discussed the possibility of it being aimed at a consumer push, as a camper van, for instance.

The EV maker has also developed a custom-built fully electric ambulance for ABC’s medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” which was featured in two episodes of the 22nd season already.

While the custom-built van did feature a window, the placement was not the same as the one spotted by the X user weeks ago.
