The electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian sent out on Thursday a survey to all reservation holders of its recently unveiled R2 about which configurations, specs and features customers and potential customers would prefer.

In the survey — which is signed by Jonas Reinke, VP Product Management and Wassym Bensaid, Chief Software Officer — Rivian said that the answers will help the company to “prioritize new features for current and future” models.

“Thanks for reserving R2. As a future Rivian owner, your input is important to us. Please take this short survey so that we can learn a little bit more about you and your preferences. Your opinion will help us prioritize new features for current and future Rivian vehicles,” Rivian said in the email.

Among other questions, Rivian asks to choose between two configurations of the R2 where the first one is a all wheel drive trip-motor version with 325 miles of range and a starting price between $57,000 and $60,999. The second one is a dual motor with additional 25 miles of range which would start $4,000 lower.

In March, Rivian introduced its latest midsize platform, serving as the foundation for both the R2 and R3 product lines. The company shared intentions to produce the R2 models at their existing U.S. facility, leading to anticipated savings exceeding $2 billion.

At the time, Rivian said that the R2 model is “expected to start around $45,000” and R3 “will be priced below R2”, marking Rivian’s new lower cost vehicles. Deliveries of the R2 are expected to begin in the first half of 2026 in the United States.

Rivian’s recent update to the NHTSA’s VIN database reveals preparations for the introduction of a Tri-Motor variant and a new “Premium” trim level for the upcoming version of its model R1S and R1T.

Amid Earth Day, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Rivian introduced a few days ago a trade-in incentive up to $5,000 for gas-powered SUVs from 2018 or later.

The company had recently announced that until the end of this month, Rivian‘s R1 models ordered from the inventory will include a complimentary XPEL Stealth paint protective film (PPF) valued at $5,000.

Rivian’s Vice President of Software Development, Wassym Bensaid, hosted a Q&A event in San Jose on Saturday, showcasing Rivian’s latest models, the R2 and R3X. During the event, Bensaid discussed the forthcoming facelifts for both Rivian R1 models, as well as new features and upgrades.

The company has recently expanded its leasing program to include four additional U.S. states, granting access to the $7,500 EV tax credit. The addition of Maryland, New Mexico, Virginia, and Alaska brings the total number of states on the list to 30.

Rivian’s plant in Illinois is currently temporary closed until the end of the month for the implementation of new technologies and production methods aimed at substantial cost reduction.

As initially reported by EV, the company started recently a new round of layoffs to “support our goal to be gross margin positive by the end of the year,” as said in an email to Reuters.
