Rivian Appoints Google Veteran Sangsoo S. as VP of Infotainment Software

Rivian announced on Tuesday that it has appointed Google veteran Sangsoo S. as its new Vice President of Infotainment Software, bringing significant tech expertise to the electric vehicle maker.

At the electric vehicle (EV) maker, Sangsoo will lead the Infotainment Software group which is focused on “driving innovation across platform development, system UI, AI (voice and genAI), camera systems, maps, media, and more”, according to the executive.

Sangsoo joined Google in 2006 as a Software Engineer, spending the first four years on the Google Search team.

Over his 18-year tenure at the tech giant, he rose to the position of Director of Software Engineering, where he led the development and integration of Generative AI and Large Language Model (LLM) products across various Google platforms.

Before his time at Google, Sangsoo served as a Senior Software Engineer at the South Korean IT company NHN.

Rivian has begun deploying its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2024.27, for the second-generation R1 models (R1S and R1T).

The update brings access to new apps such as Apple Music and Audible, a 60-Day Trial of Connect+ and several enhancements.

The EV maker is offering a 60-day trial of Connect+, allowing users to access premium media app streaming capabilities while video app streaming is promised in future updates.
