Rivian Accelerates Shipment of Delivery Vans to Amazon in Europe

Although the California-based electric vehicle (EV) maker Rivian is — still — not in the European market, its electric delivery vans (EDVs) are becoming more and more common on the old continent.

A new picture shared by a Reddit user this Monday showed nearly 50 of these vans parked in Germany.

Although the user did not share which city the picture was taken in, he said in the comment section that there were about three times more parked next to these.

“There were even more that aren’t in the photo. Maybe 3x this amount,” the user wrote.

Last week, a recent drone video shared by a Rivian enthusiast on YouTube revealed a significant accumulation of these delivery vans at the company’s factory lot in Normal, Illinois.

The footage shows over a thousand vans, including hundreds of blue vans destined for Amazon, the largest shareholder of the electric vehicle startup.

Alongside these, several hundred non-branded white delivery vans are also visible as the company discusses more van customers besides Amazon and AT&T.

Rivian’s Chief Financial Officer Claire McDonough recently hinted at ongoing discussions with potential clients for their electric commercial vans.

This development follows speculation about a collaboration with DHL, fueled by social media images of DHL-branded Rivian vehicles over the past few months. In fact, two months ago, units branded with DHL were spotted being transported in the U.S., with more seen parked at Rivian’s Normal, Illinois, factory.

In 2019, Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos placed a $7 billion order with Rivian for 100,000 electric delivery vans to be delivered by the end of the decade. To date, Rivian has shipped over 13,500 of these vans to Amazon across the United States.

Rivian’s Normal facility has a production capacity of 65,000 units for its commercial van business. The vans come equipped with features such as automatic emergency braking, collision warnings, 360-degree visibility, a 15.6-inch touch display, and a 360-degree camera system.
