Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, along with a team of top executives, paid a visit to Nio’s Shanghai headquarters on Monday, keen to get a firsthand look at Nio‘s latest model, the L60. The SUV was launched last week under Nio‘s subbrand Onvo and undercuts the Tesla Model Y by $4,000.

While hosted by Nio CEO William Li, Lei Jun and his team delved into the details of the freshly unveiled Onvo L60, as the smartphone giant gears up for the release of its second model, set to hit the streets by 2025.

During discussions, William Li drew attention to Xiaomi’s impressive sales performance with its SU7 model, surpassing even Tesla’s Model 3.

Li’s inquiry into the competitive potential of the Onvo L60 against Tesla’s Model Y was met with a confident response from Lei Jun, who expressed optimism about the Onvo L60’s market prospects.

According to a report by local media outlet 36kr, Xiaomi’s upcoming second model is slated to be an all-electric SUV, with plans also in place for a lower-priced offering.

“Excited to announce that we’ve delivered 7,058 units of Xiaomi SU7 as of April 30th. Total lock-in orders have reached 88,063. We’re working hard to ramp up production and accelerate deliveries to meet our goal of delivering 100,000 units this year!”, Lei Jun wrote on X.

Onvo’s first model features 900V high-voltage architecture, with a CLTC energy efficiency of 92.3% and the world’s lowest drag coefficient of 0.229 for a production SUV. The aerodynamic enables the L60 to achieve an energy consumption of 12.1 kWh per 100 km.

“L60 will provide mainstream family users with vehicle experiences of premium quality,” Onvo stated in the release.
