Onvo’s Upcoming L80 Is Five-Seat Version of L90, Filing Shows

A regulatory filing published on Friday shows that Onvo, the family-oriented sub-brand of the Nio Group, has reclassified what was previously believed to be two separate SUV models — the L80 and L90 — as seating variants of the same flagship vehicle.

According to China’s latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) product catalogue, Onvo has filed a specification change for the L90, expanding its seating configuration from a six-seat layout to include five-, six- and seven-seat options.

The filing also lists “L80” as an optional rear badge, indicating that the L80 is the five-seat version of the L90 rather than a distinct model.

Until now,the models were understood as separate upcoming vehicles under the Onvo brand.

The L90 is scheduled for launch between July and September while the L80 — the five-seat variant — will follow in the fourth quarter.

“In Q4, we will also release the L80 product,” the chief executive William Li said in early June.

“Then by end of this year, there will be three products under the Onvo brand, and these three products will all be targeting family segments with good qualities and experiences,” he added.

The L90 was first unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April as Onvo’s flagship SUV, with the frunk being one of the highlights for the brand’s second model.

According to the MIIT filing, the L90 measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width and either 1,766 mm or 1,786 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm.

Powertrain options include a 340 kW single motor or a dual-motor system rated at 100 kW and 340 kW.

The company is targeting monthly deliveries of 25,000 vehicles under its Onvo sub-brand in the fourth quarter of 2025, the company’s founder and CEO William Li said during the latest earnings call.

The target would represent a sharp increase from recent monthly volumes and comes as Nio prepares to launch two new models in the third and fourth quarter of the year.

Deliveries of the L60 in May rose more than 40% from the 4,400 units recorded in April.

The brand delivered 5,912 units in January, 4,049 in February, 4,820 in March, and 4,400 in April. An earlier internal goal of 20,000 units for March was not met.

The company expects that performance to improve further in the coming months.

The L90 is expected to achieve a 600-kilometre driving range on an 85 kWh battery, which the company described as a “game-changer” for large battery electric SUVs in China.

Li reiterated Nio’s full-year strategy to achieve profitability in the fourth quarter, driven by sales growth, improved gross margins, and tighter cost controls.

The 25,000 monthly Onvo delivery goal would account for half of the company’s projected 50,000 monthly total deliveries in the final quarter.
