Onvo’s Upcoming Model L90 Unveiled in Chinese Regulatory Filings

The first exterior images and specifications for Onvo‘s second model, the L90, were shared by Chinese regulators on Wednesday as Nio’s sub-brand prepares to officially unveil it next week at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Nio’s family-oriented and more affordable brand saw its sales increase by 5% week-over-week to 735 units between April 7 and 13, as it ramps up incentives in China. In the first half of April, Onvo’s chief Alan Ai stepped down and the brand’s number two Xia Qinghua transitioned to a new role within the Nio Group — as exclusively reported by EV.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing shows the Onvo L90 will be a six-seat SUV with a rear-wheel-drive version featuring a 340 kW motor at the rear, while the all-wheel-drive includes an additional 100 kW motor at the front.

The model will have multiple customization options, including different wheel designs, a ‘First Edition’ badging for early adopters, and retractable electric running boards.

The vehicle measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,766 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. The six-seat SUV will be offered with 20- and 21-inch wheels and a variety of tire configurations.

The L90’s curb weight ranges from 2,360 to 2,385 kg, and it has a gross vehicle weight of 2,900 kg. The electric powertrain includes a 340 kW motor supplied by Huawei’s electric drive unit in Hefei.

The vehicle will use battery packs supplied by CATL, CALB Group, Jiangsu Gotion High-Tech Co., Ltd., Sunwoda, Farasis Energy, EVE Energy, and BYD Lithium Battery Co., Ltd.

The flagship model of the family-oriented brand will follow the L60, a five-seat SUV that started being delivered in China last September.

The brand’s third model will follow in the final quarter of the year, Nio founder and CEO William Li revealed in late 2024.
