Onvo Unveils L90 SUV With Pre-Sale Price Set at $39,000, Deliveries Begin in August

Nio’s sub-brand Onvo on Thursday pre-launched its second model, the L90, a six-seater fully electric SUV.

The official launch of the L90 is scheduled for the end of July, with deliveries beginning on August 1.

The Onvo L90 will be offered in six- and seven-seat configurations, with a five-seat variant—expected to be named the L80—set to arrive in the fourth quarter.

The standard purchase price starts at 279,900 yuan ($39,000), while customers choosing Nio’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan will pay 193,900 yuan ($27,000) upfront and lease the battery separately.

Buyers placing early orders can apply a 2,000 yuan deposit toward 5,000 yuan of the final payment and receive an additional 5,000 yuan credit for optional upgrades.

Existing owners of the Onvo L60 Founders Edition will receive 50,000 reward points after delivery, while returning customers from the Onvo, Nio, or Firefly brands will receive 30,000 points.

Unveiled earlier this year at the Shanghai Auto Show, the L90 measures 5,145 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and up to 1,786 mm in height, with a 3,110 mm wheelbase.

It adopts a 900V electrical architecture and will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants.

Powertrain options include a single 340 kW motor or a dual-motor configuration combining 100 kW and 340 kW, offering a top speed of 200 km/h.

The L90 is powered by an 85 kWh battery pack. While its range has not been disclosed, the smaller L60 equipped with the same battery is rated at 730 km (450 miles) under the CLTC cycle.

The vehicle will initially be manufactured at Nio’s F2 plant in Hefei, with production expanding to a third facility in Anhui province beginning in September.

The L90 launch follows a leadership change at Onvo in April, when Fei Shen replaced former brand head Alan Ai after disappointing sales of the L60. At Thursday’s event, Shen reiterated on Weibo that deliveries are imminent.

Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li said at the event to spotlight that Nio has invested more than 18 billion yuan ($2.48 billion) over the last ten years in charging and battery swapping infrastructure.

As of July 10, the company has built 13,323 fast-charging piles and 13,390 destination chargers. Notably, 83% of charging activity on Nio’s network comes from non-Nio brand vehicles.

Nio also claims to operate the world’s largest highway battery swap network, with over 1,000 stations covering 16 major urban clusters and spanning 9 vertical and 11 horizontal expressways.

Nio aims for Onvo sales to reach 25,000 units per month in the fourth quarter. In June, Onvo registered 6,400 vehicles—its highest monthly total this year and second only to its September 2023 debut.
