Nio‘s sub-brand Onvo said on Saturday that its upcoming L90 SUV will be equipped with a proprietary suspension control system developed over the past decade.
In a Q&A post on its official app in China, the family-oriented brand said the L90 “includes Nio’s decade-in-the-making 4D Comfort Pilot feature, which will be activated via OTA updates.”
“Using AI-powered predictive road sensing, it adjusts suspension settings in advance for hills, speed bumps, and road undulations, offering smoother rides and more stable body posture,” Onvo added.
The system enables the car to scan road surfaces at a rate of 100Hz and adjust damping parameters in real time.
Standard on all L90 variants, the feature will be delivered via software update following the vehicle’s market launch.
The first Q&A post, where the brand will clarify the most asked questions and provide more details about the model, come days after Nio executives said pre-orders for the L90 have met internal targets, following a media briefing in Hefei held less than 24 hours after the vehicle’s pre-launch event.
Priced from 279,900 yuan ($39,000), or 193,900 yuan ($26,700) with the company’s battery subscription program, the L90 is positioned to compete with rivals such as Li Auto, Huawei-backed Aito and BYD’s Denza.
Weighing 2,250kg — about 200–300kg lighter than comparable models — the all-wheel-drive version produces 440kW of power, delivering 0–100 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds.
The SUV is also equipped with front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension, hydraulic bushings, adaptive air suspension, and staggered-width tires.
Onvo claims the model achieves 97% vibration isolation, with additional rear-cabin tuning and intelligent stop functions aimed at enhancing ride quality for families.
Nationwide test drives are scheduled to begin on July 23, with deliveries starting August 1. More than 540 display units are already available across 400 locations in 141 cities in China, the company said.
A seven-seat version of the L90 is also in development, with more details to be announced later this month.
The model will additionally support battery swapping via Nio’s upcoming fifth-generation stations, which are designed to accommodate three battery sizes with greater automation and compatibility.
