Onvo, a sub-brand of Chinese EV maker Nio, recorded 1,400 insurance registrations in China for the week of February 17-23, up from 900 the previous week, data from rival automaker Li Auto showed on Tuesday.

Nio’s premium brand reported 2,500 registrations during the same period, bringing the group’s total to 3,900, an increase from 2,800 the previous week.

Among new energy vehicle (NEV) startups, Nio and its sub-brand ranked sixth in weekly registrations, matching Huawei-backed Aito, which also logged 3,900 units.

XPeng led the sector with 8,800 registrations, up from 8,100 a week earlier, followed by Li Auto with 7,700 units (up from 7,500). Xiaomi’s SU7 sedan recorded 6,400 registrations, down from 6,900. Zeekr, a premium EV brand under Geely, reported 3,500 units, slightly lower than the previous week’s 3,600.

Onvo’s key competitor in the family-oriented segment, Tesla, registered 6,900 units, down from 7,500 a week earlier. Tesla recently halted sales and production of the older Model Y and is preparing to begin deliveries of an updated version in the coming weeks.

Onvo L90

Onvo is preparing to expand its lineup with two new SUVs this year, the first of which will be named the L90, brand chief Alan Ai said in a livestream last week.

Earlier this Tuesday, the company revealed the first official image of its upcoming flagship SUV.

“The flagship SUV with a spacious interior for big families, the Onvo L90, offers both charging and battery swapping—providing a better experience than refueling and a superior pure electric performance,” the company wrote on Weibo.

The L90, expected to be Onvo’s flagship model, will feature a three-row layout targeting larger families. The SUV is set to debut in the second quarter, with sales slated to begin in the third quarter.

Monthly Deliveries

Onvo delivered 5,912 vehicles in January, well below its production capacity target of 16,000 units for the month. The company met its December target of 10,000 units and now aims to reach 20,000 in March.

While neither Tesla nor Onvo disclose their order backlog, Nio’s sub-brand is expected to face strong competition from Tesla’s refreshed Model Y. Domestic rivals include SUVs from Zeekr, Exeed, and Avatr.
