Nio’s Onvo Brand Launches Discount Campaign on Flexible Battery Upgrades

Nio‘s sub-brand Onvo launched a limited-time discount campaign on Wednesday, offering savings of up to 1,000 yuan ($141) on battery upgrade services.

The brand launched its debut model in 2024 and a three row SUV — named L90 — last July.

In 2026, the family oriented marque will release a large five seat SUV named L80. Initially planned for late 2025, the launch has been delayed allowing the brand to focus on its best selling model L90.

The newly launched “Flexible Upgrade Warm Winter Benefits” campaign offers 2,000 voucher bundles for 1 yuan each ($0.14), available on a first-come, first-served basis through December 31.

The vouchers provide up to 42% off monthly battery rental upgrades from December 10, 2025 through March 20, 2026 — covering both the New Year holidays and the Chinese New Year travel period.

Each bundle includes three vouchers: two offering 400 yuan ($57) off orders of 800 yuan or more, and one offering 200 yuan off orders of 800 yuan ($113) or more.

The vouchers cannot be combined on a single order and must be used for separate monthly upgrade transactions, the brand clarified.

The promotion is limited to primary users of vehicles equipped with the 60 kWh Standard Range battery — Onvo‘s entry-level battery option.

Battery Doubling Plan

The campaign comes as Onvo progresses on its nationwide battery swap network expansion.

Last week, the brand announced plans to add more than 8,000 battery packs to swap stations by mid-January under what it called a “national battery-swap station battery doubling plan.”

The initiative aims to address a shortage of Onvo-compatible batteries at Nio’s swap stations ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday season, when travel demand typically surges.

Subsidy Impact

Onvo delivered 11,794 vehicles in November, a 32% decline from October’s record 17,342 units, as Chinese government subsidy cuts dampened demand for its L60 and L90 models.

Nio Group founder and Chief Executive Officer William Li acknowledged the impact during the company’s recent third-quarter earnings call.

“We did see the impact coming from the phase-out and the termination of the trade-in and replacement subsidies since October,” Li said.

The CEO explained that “our Onvo L60 and L90 are majorly affected by this cancellation as they are also relatively low price segment and are more sensitive to such changes.”

Nio trimmed again its fourth-quarter delivery guidance from 150,000 units to a range of 120,000 to 125,000 vehicles as a result.
