Onvo, the sub-brand of Chinese EV maker Nio, is preparing to launch two new models later this year. Positioned as a family-oriented brand competing with Tesla’s SUVs, Onvo was introduced last year, with its first model, the L60, beginning deliveries in China on September 28.

A new image of Onvo’s third model, officially confirmed last month as the L90, was shared by Chinese media outlet Dongchedi on Saturday, revealing the first look of the SUV’s rear design.

“Recently, we obtained a spy photo of the rear of the Onvo L90 from relevant sources. The rear design of this model can be seen as a larger version of the Onvo L60,” the report reads.

The L90 is expected to debut in the second quarter and go on sale in the third quarter.

Over the past few weeks, Onvo has gradually revealed images of the camouflaged SUV. Earlier this week, Eric Yu, Nio’s assistant vice president and head of Onvo products, shared another image of the L90 on Weibo.

The brand had previously released its first official image of the L90 on February 25, the same day Li Auto began teasing its first all-electric SUV, the Li i8. A day later, Onvo published a second image of the L90, parked next to Li Auto’s L9 model.

A leaked internal presentation in late January, shared on Weibo, indicated that Onvo had already completed trial production of the L90.

Deliveries of the debut model L60 began last September, with the brand adding a new battery supplier in early December to tackle battery supply disruption, which limited deliveries in both October and November.

The brand’s third model will follow in the final quarter of the year, Nio founder and CEO William Li revealed in late 2024.

Despite the recent slowdown on vehicle deliveries, Nio’s founder and chief executive, William Li, reaffirmed the 20,000-unit target for March in a new interview published on Friday.

The company promised last year that it would reach 16,000 production capacity in January and 20,000 by March. Deliveries in February stood at 4,049 units, down 43.8% from the first month of the year.
