Onvo on Track for Second-Biggest Month in Sales, Insurance Data Shows

Onvo, the family-focused sub-brand of Nio Group, reported a 1.3% decline in weekly sales in China to 1,580 units for the week of May 19–25, according to insurance registration data published on Tuesday.

The figures mark a second consecutive weekly decline following a 5% drop the previous week, though the brand maintained weekly registrations above 1,500 units for a third straight week — the first time it has done so this year.

Between April 28 and May 25, Onvo sold 6,080 units of its debut model, the L60 SUV, surpassing the monthly total reached in February, March or April.

The figures also suggest that May deliveries stood just below 6,000 units by the 25th day of the month as the brand prepares to report its second-best monthly sales result on the first day of June.

Onvo delivered 4,049 vehicles in February, 4,820 in March, and 4,400 in April. The company previously set a target of delivering 20,000 units in March alone.

Launched in September, the five-seat L60 is positioned against Tesla’s Model Y and is priced from 206,900 yuan ($28,700) including the battery.

Customers can also opt for a battery leasing plan under Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, reducing the upfront cost to 149,900 yuan ($20,800) and allowing access to more than 1,800 compatible battery swap stations across China.

Across all three brands—Nio, Onvo, and Firefly—Nio Group’s total registrations dipped 1.8% to 6,530 units last week.

Onvo rolled out late last week a new software update bringing several improved features covering the heads up display (HUD), infotainment, the in-car voice assistant ‘Xiaole’ and the integration of China’s AliPay services.

The brand was unveiled in China at the Family Day exactly a year ago by Nio Group founder and CEO William Li, alongside Onvo chief Alan Ai, who left the company in early April following weaker-than-expected sales in the first months of the year.

After unveiling its second model — the L90 — at the Shanghai Auto Show, the brand is planning “to fully launch” it and “announce its price in July,” according to Nio’s co-founder and president, Lihong Qin.

Based on a leaked image shared by the X user ThinkerCar, Onvo’s second model has an energy consumption of 14.7 kWh per 100km. The debut model L60, a smaller and more aerodynamic SUV, has an energy consumption of 12.1kWh per 100km.

Onvo has recently eliminated the cost of upgrading from the standard 65kWh battery to the 85kWh long-range version.

Under Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program, the upgrade fee was reduced from 3,000 yuan ($410) to just 1 yuan (about 14 cents).
