China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released a new catalogue on Friday, revealing a LiDAR-equipped version of Onvo’s debut model.
This filing adds to the previously confirmed L80 and L90 models, which were first seen in a similar catalogue released earlier this year.
The decision to add LiDAR to the L60 — which was marketed as a direct rival to the previous iteration of the Tesla Model Y — marks a shift in Onvo’s assisted driving strategy for its cheapest model.
In late January, Onvo brand chief Fei Shen said that while both existing models — the L60 and L90 — would receive annual facelifts, only the L90 would have a LiDAR-equipped version, while the L60 would continue to rely on a pure vision solution.
The family-oriented sub-brand will begin shipping vehicles with LiDAR sensors for the first time since launching in late 2024.
Previously, Nio had included the suite of sensors only in its premium models, excluding vehicles from both the Onvo and Firefly sub-brands.
With LiDAR costs falling sharply, the system is now being integrated into several models in lower-priced segments across the market.
L90 and L80
The MIIT catalogue filed in January also showed that the new L90 will feature dual-tone exterior body colors — similar to what Nio has done with its flagship executive sedan ET9.
According to a post made by Onvo‘s chief Shen Fei, the new LiDAR-equipped L90 is scheduled to launch in the second quarter.
Shen also stated that the current L90, which utilizes pure-vision smart driving technology, will remain available for purchase and current owners will keep receiving software updates for the model.
The upcoming L80 — a five-seat version of the L9 SUV — will be launched with both vision-only and LiDAR-equipped versions.
The model’s launch was postponed late last year as the company focused on ramping up production of the L90.
Nio‘s co-founder and President Qin Lihong revealed late last month that the model will be unveiled in mid-April, with the launch and deliveries set to commence a month later.
The timeline coincides with the anniversary of the brand’s launch, celebrated on May 15 (World Family Day).
Onvo Deliveries
Onvo has delivered 2,981 vehicles in February, extending the decline already seen in the first month of the year and reaching a new record low since the brand’s launch in September 2024.
Compared to February 2025, when Onvo delivered 4,049 vehicles, last month’s figures represented a decrease of 26.4%.
China’s auto sector braced for a sluggish February as the Lunar New Year holiday weighed on production and sales — a seasonal pattern that typically makes the month one of the weakest of the year.
The L60 model sold between 4,000 and 6,000 units per month throughout 2025, after a sharp decline from over 10,000 units in December 2024.
In the first two months of 2026, sales fell further to under 2,000 units per month — less than half of the previous year’s figures.
February marked the model’s worst month since its first full month of deliveries, when sales jumped from 832 units in September 2024 to over 4,000 in October.
Sales Network
Nio‘s founder and CEO William Li said earlier this week, during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, that the EV maker currently operates 420 Onvo stores.
This falls short of the brand’s target of 1,000 stores by the end of 2025, according to a late-2024 report by local media outlet Xchuxing.
The company had aimed to reach 500 stores by March 2025, and it operated 105 stores when deliveries began in September 2024.
Nio has closed 2025 with fewer Nio Houses — its flagship showrooms — than it operated in 2024.
“In 2026, the three brands will continue to strengthen their presence in key markets while expanding into more lower-tier markets through Sky Stores, which serve as shared sales and service stores for all three brands,” Li stated.
The company has recently opened its first multi-brand store in China.
