Nio’s Firefly Cuts Price 18% in Norway Two Months After Launch

Nio‘s sub-brand Firefly announced its first major price reduction in Norway just over two months after beginning deliveries of its debut model in the market.

The Shanghai-headquartered brand had initially planned to deliver 1,500 vehicles in Norway in 2025, “with a reasonable margin” across both Nio and Firefly brands, according to a January interview with the country manager An Ho.

Of those, 500 units were planned to be the debut model of the Firefly sub-brand. However, the initial demand has been weaker than expected.

Named a ‘Pre-Christmas Offer,’ the new 17.9% price reduction in Norway is valid until December 14 and limited to available inventory.

Priced at 279,900 Norwegian kroners — equivalent to $27,300 — the hatchback starts now at 229,900 kroner ($22,400).

Inventory of 85 Vehicles

The local media outlet bilbransje24, which first reported the offer, has contacted the company’s head of marketing and communications for the Norwegian market Vijay Sharma.

“The campaign applies only to inventory cars,” Sharma said, adding that the offer “applies to about 85 cars.”

According to the same outlet, Firefly‘s sales targets have been cut to “around 200” units.

As of early Monday, the brand has registered 20 vehicles in the country about ten weeks after the first deliveries.

Despite denying the disclose specific targets, Sharma admitted that the company “hopes to empty” the inventory before the year end.

“We can nevertheless say that the goal of the campaign is to significantly reduce the inventory, and we naturally hope to empty it before the turn of the year,” the marketing head stated.

Despite country chief An Ho targeting 1,500 EV sales for 2025, the group — which includes the Nio and the Firefly brands — have just registered 350 vehicles through the end of October.

The Chinese EV maker had previously launched the first ever promotion, currently offering financing as low as 1.99% nominal interest (4.59% effective) through Santander Consumer Bank.

In October, 97.4% electric vehicles sold in Norway were fully electric — a slight decline from the 98.3% reached in September.

New Record in November

Despite the slow European rollout, Firefly reached a new record in China last month.

Globally, the brand delivered 5,912 units in October, with Firefly chief Daniel Jin saying on Sunday that November will see a new record.

Despite expecting a “tough” first quarter of 2026 for all Chinese carmakers due to the reduced incentives, Jin estimates the brand to deliver between 6,000 and 6,500 vehicles globally starting from April.
