Registration data released Tuesday showed that the electric vehicle brand Nio registered 3,500 vehicles in China between April 28 and May 4.
In a week disrupted by China’s Labor Holiday period and affected by the usual lower sales volume at the beginning of each month, nearly all new energy vehicle (NEV) startups posted lower sales figures when compared to the final week of April.
The Shanghai-based premium brand sold 1,230 units of its best-selling model ES6 last week, down from 2,460 units the prior one.
According to several automotive bloggers in China, Nio will begin test drives of the refreshed version this weekend. However, it remains unknown when the first deliveries of the 2025 version will start.
In February, Nio founder and CEO William Li said the company’s best-selling models — the ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6 — would receive refreshed 2025 versions featuring major interior updates, including new horizontal screens and Nio’s own autonomous driving chip, replacing the Nvidia chip currently in use.
For the coupe SUV EC6, which will also get a new version, Nio sold 1,050 units between April 28 and May 4 — rising for the second consecutive week. The brand had registered 630 units between April 14-20 and 860 between April 21 and 27.
Sales of the ET5 Touring also rose to X units, compared with X units recorded in the third week of the month.
For its flagship sedan ET9, which began deliveries in China on March 28, Nio registered 190 units, down 24% from the 250 units sold a week earlier. Between April 14 and 20, the company had recorded 212 ET9 vehicles.
The station wagon ET5 Touring was Nio‘s second best selling model with 1,050 units, falling 46% from the 1,960 units sold in the prior week — data shared by the X user ThinkerCar on Thursday showed.
Nio brand’s cheapest model, the ET5 sedan, saw 360 units registered.
Models including the ES8, ET7, EC7, and ES7 were grouped under the “Others” category in the latest chart, which totaled 230 units, down from a combined 350 units the week before.
In the final quarter of the year, Nio is planning to launch the 2025 version of its three-row flagship SUV, the ES8.
In April, Nio sold 52 vehicles across five European markets, down from 86 units in March, according to official national data and the EU-EVs platform.
Sales included 29 vehicles in Norway, 19 in Germany, two each in the Netherlands and Sweden, and none in Denmark.
Globally, the Nio brand sold 19,269 vehicles in April, increasing both sequentially (from 10,219) and year over year (from 15,620).
Nio’s first sub-brand, Onvo, delivered 4,400 units of its debut model while the newly launched Firefly brand delivered 231 vehicles in the final days of the month.
