Nio held on early Tuesday its annual “Power Up” event dedicated to battery charging and swapping technology. The electric vehicle maker unveiled new charging products and shared the next step of its battery swap infrastructure with the launch of the Power Up Partner Program.

Shen Fei, Vice President of the Nio Power unit, followed the company’s CEO William Li at the stage to present, among other technologies, the new car-to-car charger that allows drivers to get 12.4 miles (20km) of range in five minutes.

The charger offers a maximum charging power of 40 kW and a maximum output voltage of 1,000V, the executive said at the event adding it has the “highest power in the industry.”

The charger, which was presented as to be “used in emergency rescue,” weighs 64 pounds (29kg) and fits in the vehicle’s trunk.

In the Nio App, the chief executive William Li wrote that the company needs to continue expanding its battery charging and swapping infrastructure.

“To meet the growing demand, we need to continue expanding our network of charging piles and battery swap stations, allowing more users to enjoy Nio’s charging services,” the company’s CEO wrote.

At the event, the company said it will build a new factory in Wuhan, China, to support the rollout of battery swap stations.

In addition to the new factory, the EV maker will also establish a new headquarters in the city for Nio Power, its division focused on charging and battery swapping services.
