Nio to Launch in Luxembourg in Feb. 2026 with Nio and Firefly Brands

Chinese EV maker Nio is preparing to launch in Luxembourg in February 2026, marking another step in its European expansion, according to information shared during the GO Electric Day event held Sunday in the country.

Nio participated in the event through its local distributor Hedin Automotive Group, which was appointed in June as the exclusive distributor for Nio Group brands — Nio, Onvo, and Firefly — in Belgium and Luxembourg.

The launch date was first reported by X user DriveGreen80167, who attended the event.

Hedin previously announced prices for the Belgian market in late August, starting at €29,990 ($34,970) for Firefly’s compact hatchback and reaching €115,580 ($134,780) for Nio’s flagship SUV.

The one-day event gathered more than 30 exhibitors and 70 EV models, reflecting Luxembourg’s growing electric-vehicle adoption.

The share of fully electric new-car registrations in the country has surged from 0.2% in 2015 to 27.4% in 2024, while petrol cars accounted for 29.6% — official data shows.

Luxembourg currently counts 3,000 public charging points, roughly one per kilometre of road, and has seen 11,000 subsidy applications for home chargers under the Klimabonus incentive program.

Nio and its sub-brands first appeared publicly in the Benelux region at the Link2Fleet ZE Experience event in Leuven, Belgium, in June.

Last year, the EV maker opened its first battery-swap station in Belgium, even before vehicle sales began there.

As exclusively reported by EV, Nio is also expanding to Armenia, with co-founder and president Qin Lihong saying in September the company had signed or was close to signing distribution agreements with 20 partners worldwide.

In August, Nio outlined plans to enter Singapore, Uzbekistan, and Costa Rica between 2025 and 2026, with Costa Rica becoming the first market in the Americas for the brand. Its lineup there will include the EL8 (ES8 in China), EL6, ET5 Touring, Onvo L60, and Firefly models.

The EV maker is also starting distribution in Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Denmark over the same period.

Although Nio entered Denmark in 2022 via a direct-sales model, it is now pivoting to local dealership partnerships to lower costs and align with its global retail strategy.

Earlier this year, Nio confirmed plans to enter Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania, targeting launches through 2026.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
