Nio said on Friday it will officially launch a special edition of its flagship ET9 sedan, the Horizon Edition, at its annual event scheduled for Saturday.
At the event in Hangzhou, the Chinese EV maker will also officially launch the third-generation ES8 SUV.
The three row SUV is expected to boost demand for the brand and support its goal of reaching 25,000 monthly sales in each month of the fourth quarter.
The Horizon Edition of the ET9 sedan had first been unveiled in mid-July when it appeared in a catalogue released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
In a new post on its app on Friday previewing the event, Nio confirmed the version will be launched alongside the ES8.
The Shanghai-based EV maker said earlier that the Horizon Edition continues the ET9’s “flying aircraft body” design while introducing a two-tone exterior scheme and an all-new aerodynamic wheel design.
“All-new aerodynamic wheel design, with a surface inspired by sculpted metalwork, meticulously crafted for an elegant and dynamic presence,” Nio said in a July social media post.
The ET9, which was first introduced at Nio’s annual event last December, saw its First Edition sell out within 12 hours at a price of 818,000 yuan ($115,000).
Nio vice president of product management Ted Li said the Horizon Edition was developed in response to feedback from owners seeking more personalized design options.
“After ET9 deliveries began, we had in-depth conversations with many of our owners. A number of them expressed the desire to personalize their ET9, and some have already made thoughtful modifications to their vehicles — with impressive results,” Li wrote on Weibo.
“To better meet the growing demand for personalized design, we will be launching the ET9 Horizon Edition, a special version of the model, later this year.”
The ET9 is available through Nio’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) program, lowering the entry price to 660,000 yuan ($92,800) for customers leasing the battery separately.
With the battery included, the sedan is priced at 788,000 yuan ($111,000) — more than twice the starting price of the ES6 SUV, Nio’s best-seller, which begins at 338,000 yuan ($46,100).
Nio Day 2025, brought forward from its usual December schedule to September this year, will focus on the official launch of the new ES8 SUV while also highlighting the Horizon Edition as the latest addition to the company’s premium lineup.
Separately, Nio’s sub-brand Onvo unveiled earlier this Friday the second iteration of its debut model, the fully electric five-seat L60 SUV.
The model brings several updates while prices remain unchanged as the brand seeks to boost demand in the highly competitive Chinese EV market.
Fei Shen, Onvo’s chief and longtime Nio vice president, will present the new model during a livestream event at 7 p.m. Beijing time that also marks the one-year anniversary of the L60’s launch.
