Nio to Build ‘World’s Largest Multifunctional Nio House’ in China

Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio is planning to open what it calls the “world’s largest multifunctional Nio House” in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province in eastern China.

The Shanghai-based company opened 10 new Nio Houses — its flagship showroom format — between April and June, but an equal number were closed over the same period, leaving the total unchanged at 187 as of both April 30 and June 30.

Figures for the month July have not yet been released.

The new showroom in Hangzhou will be located in Gongshu district’s Dongxin subdistrict, the local government wrote on its official X account.

“Phase 1 launches its Delivery Center, with Phase 2 set to create the world’s largest multifunctional Nio House,” it said, adding that the space will integrate brand exhibitions, art galleries, cafés, and co-working areas in a venue designed to blend culture, innovation, and urban lifestyle.

The announcement comes nearly two years after Nio inaugurated its current flagship showroom in August 2023 next to its F2 manufacturing plant in NeoPark, Hefei.

That location, which spans over 4,000 square meters, integrates the user, delivery, and display centers and connects directly to the factory floor, offering guided tours for visitors.

It is also Nio’s first zero-carbon facility.

The company has been expanding its showroom network across both domestic and international markets.

In Europe, the largest Nio House is in Amsterdam, opened in May 2024.

The eight-story, 2,700-square-meter building features vehicle displays, a café, a children’s area, workspace, and event venues.

Nio was last in Hangzhou just a week ago to launch the second model under its new mass-market sub-brand, Onvo.

The company has continued to expand its domestic retail presence in recent months.

The EV maker opened five new Nio Houses in June, bringing the total number of locations in China to 187 as of June 30 — the same number it reported at the end of April, indicating at least two closures during the month.

In May, only one new location was added.

As reported earlier this Tuesday, the EV maker saw a surge in weekly vehicle registrations to a 14-week high, following the start of deliveries of the Onvo L90 SUV.

Nio is scheduled to launch two additional models before year-end: a refreshed version of its ES8 SUV under the Nio brand, and the L80, a five-seat variant of the Onvo L90.
