Nio to Begin Sales in Austria and Hungary in Q4, Local Distributor Says

Sales of Nio and Firefly vehicles in Austria and Hungary are set to begin in the final quarter of this year, the local distributor AutoWallis revealed on Tuesday.

The news came just hours after the Chinese electric vehicle maker announced plans to enter seven additional European markets in 2025 and 2026, expanding its direct-to-consumer model and service network.

“Nio sales operations are expected to start in Hungary and Austria in Q4 2025, with Romania, Czechia and Poland to follow next year,” AutoWallis wrote on LinkedIn.

Although the Shanghai-based EV maker had only stated it would enter those two markets “in 2025,” the partner revealed a more detailed timeline, unveiling sales are planned to begin between October and December.

AutoWallis, described by Nio as “the leading car trading and mobility service provider in the CEE region,” will handle distribution in Austria and Hungary beginning next year, followed by Romania, Czechia and Poland in 2026.

The company now represents 29 brands in 16 countries, including Chinese automakers XPeng, BYD, and MG.

For Belgium and Luxembourg, Nio is cooperating with Hedin Mobility Group. Sales in those two markets are also scheduled to begin later this year.

Nio first entered Europe via Norway in September 2021 and expanded to Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden in 2022.

The group’s founder and CEO William Li said in the earnings call held this Tuesday that the Nio brand aims to achieve 25,000 units per month by Q4, while Onvo — after adding two models to its portfolio later this year — is also targeting 25,000 sales per month in the final months of the year.

In the new European markets, Nio’s line-up will include the entry-level SUV EL6 (known as ES6 in China), the flagship SUV EL8, the cheapest sedan ET5, and its station wagon variant, the ET5 Touring.

Compared to the existing markets, Nio will not offer its larger ‘7 Series’ models — the ET7 sedan and EL7 SUV — in these countries.

Nio registered five electric vehicles in the Netherlands in May, extending its year-on-year sales decline in the market for a fourth consecutive month. In Sweden, the brand sold two units last month.
