EV maker Nio said on Tuesday it is suing seven bloggers in China after noticing “a large number of online accounts fabricating information out of thin air to attack” both its core and Onvo brands.
The Shanghai-based firm said the content has “already caused significant damage to the reputation” of both brands and their employees.
“The net of justice is vast and may be slow, but it never misses!” Nio said in the statement.
Last week, the company had already denied allegations that its mass-market sub-brand Onvo engaged in orchestrated online attacks against rival carmakers.
Nio said that several Chinese social media users circulated screenshots aiming to show Onvo employees coordinating smear campaigns and making cryptocurrency payments to online trolls.
The EV maker opened the Nio Legal Department account on the social media platform Weibo in May 2023, aiming to fight false information on social media.
Onvo, launched in May 2024, is Nio’s first sub-brand. Last December, the second sub-brand, Firefly, was launched with initial deliveries beginning in April.
Below is Nio’s statement released on Tuesday.
“Recently, as Nio’s sub-brand Onvo began deliveries of the L90, we have noticed a large number of online accounts fabricating information out of thin air to attack the Nio and Onvo brands.
These malicious contents have spread widely and have already caused significant damage to the reputation of the Nio and Onvo brands, as well as to related employees.
In response, we will take legal action, including filing lawsuits, against the following accounts responsible for malicious rumor-spreading:
- WeChat public account “股海闲思录”
- Online account “大D有态度”
- Weibo account “阿文鉴机”
- Xiaohongshu accounts “山丘下的星星” and “你真是个傻孩子”
- Douyin accounts “至尊宝哥哥” and “ιοиδ шÁ”
Nio has always upheld sincere and positive values and firmly believes that only good values can lead a company and an industry to go further.
We hereby sternly warn black PR operatives, paid trolls, and their behind-the-scenes manipulators:
The net of justice is vast and may be slow, but it never misses!
