Electric vehicle maker Nio provided, for the first time, more than 100,000 battery swaps in one day to its customers in China.

As is often the case, the EV manufacturer set a new record for the number of battery swaps during a holiday period, this time during China’s Golden Week, when more long-distance car trips occur.

Shen Fei, Nio Senior Vice President of the Power division, wrote on the Chinese social media platform this Wednesday, “103,910 [battery swap] orders yesterday”.

“My wife’s hometown, a fourth-tier county-level city in Guangdong with very low visibility for Nio, happened to come across a battery swap station under construction. Big thumbs up for Nio Power,” he added in a separate post with a picture of the station.

As of the end of September, the company’s cumulative deliveries stood at 598,875 vehicles with most of them sold under Nio’s battery swap subscription where the owner rents the battery and swaps it for a charged one.

As of Wednesday, the company has 2,558 battery swap stations across China and over 54.3 million battery swaps provided since 2018.

In Europe, the company has more than 50 stations and is preparing to open its first one in Belgium marking the first station in a market where it doesn’t sell its vehicles.

With over 53.6 million battery swaps provided in the last six years, Nio said recently it will build a new factory in Wuhan, China, to support the rollout of battery swap stations.

In addition to the new factory, Nio will establish a new headquarters in the Chinese City its Power division.
