Nio Sees 2025 ES8 Revealed in China’s MIIT Filing

Specifications for Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio’s 2025 ES8 SUV appeared on Friday in China’s latest Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) product catalogue.

The model, which is scheduled to be launched in the final quarter of the year, is bigger than its previous iteration and will feature Nio’s in-house developed autonomous driving chip.

The Shanghai-based brand has been updating its portfolio this year.

Last month, it started delivering the 2025 versions of the ET5, ET5 Touring, ES6, and EC6 in China.

According to the MIIT filing, the upcoming ES8 is listed at 5,280 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm — noticeably larger than the current ES8, which measures 5,099 mm long, 1,989 mm wide and 1,750 mm high, with a 3,070 mm wheelbase.

The ES8, a seven-seat SUV, was first launched in 2018 as Nio’s debut production model.

It was revamped as a second-generation version unveiled at the company’s Nio Day event in December 2022, with deliveries beginning in China in mid-2023.

That version, built on the NT2.0 platform, continued as the 2024 ES8 and entered Europe in September 2024.

Images of the next-generation ES8 under road tests surfaced last October on Chinese social media, and the MIIT listing confirms more details ahead of an expected market launch in the third quarter of this year.

According to the filing, the new ES8 will be equipped with Nio’s “AQUILA Super Sensing System”, featuring a lookout-tower front LiDAR, dual wide-angle side LiDARs and 4D imaging radar.

The 900V platform will support charging rates up to 5C, allowing over 250 km of range from a five-minute charge or a full battery swap in about three minutes.

The system reaches a peak voltage of 925 volts, with peak charging power of 600 kW and peak current of 765 A.

The SUV will use a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with a maximum combined output of 520 kW, consisting of a 180 kW induction asynchronous motor and a 340 kW silicon carbide permanent magnet synchronous motor.
