Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio provided the 100,000th battery swap in Europe on Friday, approximately 20 months (607 days) after opening the first station in the continent.

The Norwegian city of Lier was the first location where the EV maker opened a station after having expanded into the market in the second half of 2021.

In mid-July, the company reported having completed over 63,000 battery swaps, indicating that customers in Europe conducted approximately 37,000 swaps over the past four months.

Nio needed 98 days to reach the first 1,000 swaps in 2022 and reached 10,000 less than a year later.

In July, Nio reached 50 battery swap stations and 19 electric vehicle charging stations across its five European countries: Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Currently, the company has 59 stations in Europe.

Additionally, customers have access to more than 600,000 third-party charging piles throughout Europe.

The company is planning to open its first battery swap station in Belgium in mid-December. The station will be the company’s first such facility in a market where it does not yet sell its vehicles.

The plan to open the station there was initially announced in late September by the company’s Head of Power, Kajsa Sognefur.

Outside Europe, Nio has recently expanded to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and Israel.

Azerbaijan is one of the next markets as confirmed by the company’s co-founder and president Lihong Qin.

With over 58.2 million battery swaps provided in the last six years, Nio said earlier this year it will build a new factory in Wuhan, China, to support the rollout of battery swap stations.

In addition to the new factory, Nio will establish a new headquarters in the Chinese City its Power division.
