Nio has produced its 100th battery swap station at its new Wuhan plant, as it starts mass production at the facility. The electric vehicle manufacturer, which has admitted that it is below its target to build 1,000 new battery swap stations in China this year, is establishing a new headquarters for its Power division in Wuhan.
The 20,000-square-meter facility is expected to produce approximately 200 battery swap stations by the end of the month, with plans to scale up to 1,500 units annually, generating projected revenue of 2 billion yuan ($275.3 million).
Nio has six battery swap stations plants, five in China and an assembly plant near Budapest, in Hungary. As of this Thursday, the EV maker has 2,748 battery swap stations in China and has provided more than 59.3 million battery swaps since 2018.
Earlier this week, the company said that customers in four of its five European markets will now be able to upgrade their car’s battery on a monthly basis. The new option allows users to switch from the standard 75 kWh battery to a 100 kWh battery at the company’s battery swap stations.
In July, Nio reached 50 battery swap stations and 19 electric vehicle charging stations across its five European countries: Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Currently, the company has 59 stations in Europe.
The company will open later this month its first battery swap station in Belgium. The station will be the company’s first such facility in a market where it does not yet sell its vehicles. Last month, the company reached 100,000 battery swaps in Europe, approximately 20 months (607 days) after opening the first station in the continent.
