Electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Nio announced on Monday it has partnered with the European taxi platform Freenow across four German cities.

The partnership, effective immediately, focuses on expanding e-fleets in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. As part of the deal, taxi companies will now be able to choose two Nio models: the flagship sedan ET7, and the entry-level one, the ET5.

When choosing one of these vehicles, the taxi companies will benefit from exclusive special conditions and advantages offered by both Nio and Freenow.

Nio expanded to the German market in October 2022 and registered 44 vehicles in June. The result marks an increase from the 35 units registered in May but well below the 145 vehicles registered in June 2023.

The company has been striking deals with taxi-related companies also in Sweden and Norway. Last February, Nio shared a story of a Swedish firm that acquired a Nio ET7 allowing the drivers to switch batteries in any power swap station.

Last October, Hayler — who was previously leading the Norwegian market — replaced Ralph Kranz, Germany’s first Country Manager who joined Nio to prepare the market entrance in mid-2022.

Following the departure of Marius Hayler, Nio announced the promotion of David Sultzer — who joined Nio in September 2023 — from Regional Manager to Country Manager.

In a reaction to the extra tariffs announced by the European Commission, Nio has recently hinted that an adjustment on the prices “cannot be ruled out”. However, the company says that is maintaining its prices “at this stage”.
