Nio On Track to Post Record Sales in December Across Several European Markets

Nio Group is on track to achieve record monthly sales in December across the Netherlands and Sweden, preliminary registration data from the first two weeks of December showed on Monday.

Over the first 15 days of December, Nio’s sales across these three countries have risen to 223 units — more than tripling the 70 vehicles sold across its eight markets last month.

In December 2024, a total of 113 Nio brand vehicles were registered. The sub-brand Firefly had not yet begun sales in the Old Continent.

This year, sales in the final month of the year are on track to double that figure, as the market presence also doubled from a year ago.

Nio’s registrations in Europe are volatile as they depend on shipments from China — where all Nio vehicles are manufactured.

Most of the vehicles sold, however, were units already in stock.

The company has introduced several incentives for its portfolio over the past few months, in a final effort to push inventory of model year 2023 and 2024 out.

Netherlands

According to data from the platform EU-EVs, Nio has registered 92 vehicles in the Dutch market, 84 of which are from its main marque — a sharp rebound from the one unit registered last month.

The figures already represent the highest monthly sales of the EV maker since it launched in the Netherlands in late 2022.

The previous record was set in July 2024, when 41 vehicles were registered — roughly double the usual monthly registrations that year, which ranged from 10 to a maximum of 22 units.

The sales surge is led mostly by the entry-level ET5 and ET5 Touring models, which together account for 59 of the total 92 units sold.

Additionally, 25 EL6 SUVs were registered from December 1 to 14.

Firefly registered eight EVs in the first two weeks of the month, the same as the total units sold in November.

The company launched a Black Friday discount of €5,000 ($5,700) on the Firefly debut model, which ran from November 24 to December 7.

Sweden

In the Swedish market, registrations are also soaring compared to November, when only three vehicles were sold.

Between December 1 and December 14, a total of 61 Nio vehicles were registered in Sweden.

The ET5/ET5 Touring series represented 55 units, with the remaining six being the EL6 SUV.

Similarly to the Dutch market, Nio‘s registrations in Sweden for the first half of December already represent the highest monthly figures since its launch three years ago.

Prior to these numbers, August’s 29 EVs were the most units sold by the brand in the country.

Norway

According to Norwegian vehicle registration tracker Elbilstatistikk, Nio has sold 70 vehicles in the country in the past two weeks, more than tripling from the 20 units registered in the first two weeks of November.

Of these, 16 were ET5 Tourings, while 28 were EL6 and eight were EL8 SUVs. No ET5 units were registered this month, as inventory sold out in October.

The company is offering a 1.99% interest rate on all four models until December 31.

Additionally, 18 Firefly vehicles were sold, also tripling from the six units listed in November.

In Norway, Nio also cut the price of the Firefly debut model, in a ‘Pre-Christmas Offer’ valid until December 14.

The 70 units registered so far this month suggest the strongest sales since October 2024, when Nio sold 184 vehicles in Norway.

Other Markets

Registration figures for Germany are not available until the end of the month, when the country’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) discloses the official figures.

Nio recently re-entered the Danish market through a local distributor, as the company is moving away from its direct-to-consumer model in new markets.

The EV maker has also expanded into Belgium and Austria, where initial vehicle deliveries have already begun, and entered Portugal and Greece last month.
