Nio launched a new limited-edition version of its station wagon model, the ET5 Touring, on Friday.
The ET5T Dark Shadow Edition, limited to 555 units, was announced as part of Nio’s role as an official co-promotion partner for Disney’s TRON: Ares film.
The special edition starts at 316,000 yuan ($44,300) for full purchase or 208,000 yuan ($29,200) with the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, which allows customers to buy the vehicle without the battery and lease it separately.
The model features a new Moonlight Black exterior paint, available for an additional 4,980 yuan, paired with 20-inch Shadow Wheels and red brake calipers.
Customers can further upgrade to lightweight forged 20-inch wheels with Michelin PS5 tires for 13,000 yuan.
Nio said the car also includes a Sport+ chassis package, improving suspension stiffness, cornering stability, and overall handling dynamics.
Inside, the ET5T Dark Shadow Edition offers a Shadow Red interior theme with Nappa and Haptex dual-material sports seats (9,500 yuan option), a new NOMI Mate 3.0 intelligent assistant (8,000 yuan option), and a Nio Hi-Fi audio system (4,900 yuan).
The model also supports customized performance and design configurations through the Nio App.
The launch follows recent remarks by Qin Lihong, Nio’s co-founder and president, who said in late September that the ET5 Touring’s sustained sales lead over the ES6 SUV had surprised management and prompted a reassessment of user demand trends.
“The ET5 Touring becoming Nio’s top-selling model in recent months was actually somewhat unexpected for us,” the executive told media at the time.
“This has also made us reflect that we may need a more thorough and fundamental understanding of user needs,” he added.
Touring wagons were long considered a niche category in China, but the ET5 Touring has outperformed expectations since its launch, reflecting shifting consumer tastes toward practical yet performance-oriented designs.
The ET5T Dark Shadow Edition, which Nio describes as a “cyber world adventure,” builds on that success by combining the practicality of the Touring body style with track-inspired elements.
The EV maker said pre-orders are now open through the Nio App, with deliveries expected to begin later this year.
In late September, display four special-edition ET5 Touring wagons themed after Disney’s upcoming movie TRON: Ares at its showrooms in Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen during China’s National Day holiday.
