Chinese EV maker Nio Group officially entered the Greek market last November, as part of an expansion wave that also included Portugal and Austria.
The company introduced both its premium Nio brand and the more affordable Firefly sub-brand in these markets, where it is partnering with local distributor groups.
In the Greek market, Nio has partnered with the local distributor Motodynamics Group, which will also represent the brand in upcoming launches in Cyprus and Bulgaria set for later this year.
According to registration data published by the Hellenic Association of Motor Vehicles Importers Representatives (AMVIR) on Tuesday, the company registered 20 vehicles in the Southern European market between July and December.
Registrations per Model
Of these, 14 were Firefly units and six were Nio vehicles.
Two of these units — one Firefly and one Nio — had been registered before the official launch, which suggests some vehicles were internal, showroom, or press units.
In August, the company opened a pop-up store at the Golden Hall shopping mall in Athens.
It first showcased the Nio EL6 model, the entry-level SUV of the premium brand, which was later switched for the Firefly hatchback.
The Nio brand registered three vehicles in November — one ET5 (though it is unclear if it’s the sedan or station wagon ET5T, as many sources do not distinguish the two) and two EL6 SUVs.
Last month, two additional EL6s were listed in the market.
The Firefly EV, on the other hand, accounted for the majority of registrations in the market, totaling seven units in November and six units in December.
Portfolio
The premium brand has launched with its ET5, ET5T, and EL6 models in Greece, alongside Firefly‘s debut EV.
Unlike in its initial European markets — where Nio invested in battery swapping stations and sold vehicles with or without the battery — all models in Greece are only available with the battery pack.
Customers can choose between a 75 KWh or 100 KWh battery.
The ET5 sedan is priced from €61,900 ($72,580), while the ET5 Touring model begins at €66,900 ($78,440).
The EL6 SUV starts at €69,900, equivalent to $81,960.
During the launch event late last year, Motordynamics Group’s chairman and CEO Paris Kyriacopoulos said Nio‘s “approach to sustainability goes beyond emissions, from “battery swapping and autonomous driving to exceptional driving dynamics and safety.”
“It is already leading in technologies that will define the road ahead,” Kyriacopoulos added.
The decision to adopt battery swap technology is up to each country’s distributor.
As of press time, neither Motordynamics nor any other European partner had confirmed whether they will implement it.
Nio is also expected to launch its Onvo sub-brand in the Old Continent in 2027.
European Sales
About 1,300 vehicles from both the Nio and Firefly brands were registered in Europe last year.
Despite doubling its market presence and introducing a new brand in the Old Continent, sales fell year over year in 2025.
The brand previously operated only in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden using a showroom-based business model.
Its sales in Denmark, where it also launched in 2022, faced very low demand.
Nio re-entered the Danish market last year, through a local distributor.
Recent launches in Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, and Greece have also adopted a dealership-based business model.
