JAP Group, the Portuguese distributor responsible for the sales and after sales of both the Nio and Firefly brands in Portugal, held on Monday its launch event in the country.
As exclusively reported by EV in July 2022, the first Nio vehicles driving in Portugal were seen in Porto two years ago when the company started mapping the Southern European region.
After expanding to the first five European markets with a direct sales business model, the Shanghai-headquartered brand has been signing with local dealerships in over a dozen markets worldwide, allowing a faster expansion.
For the Nio brand, Portugal represents the 11th overseas market after expanding to Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Belgium, Austria, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates since 2021.
In Portugal, the initial lineup of the Nio brand includes the entry-level SUV EL6, the ET5 sedan, and its station wagon variant, the ET5 Touring.
The distributor announced at the Monday event in Lisbon, where EV participated, that the ET5 sedan will start at €59,900 ($69,150) with the standard range battery of 75kWh included. The long-range version starts at €69,900 ($80,700).
The ET5 Touring starts slightly higher at €62,500 while the long-range version is priced from €72,500.
Nio EL6, the entry level SUV, begins at €66,900 — €7,000 below the lon range version.
Last June, the distributor had announced the final quarter of the year for the debut in the Portuguese market.
The Firefly sub-brand arrives in the Portuguese market with both trims of the debut model: Select and Comfort.
The Select version starts at €30,900 with taxes included, with a campaign running until the year end where prices start at €29,900 ($34,500).
The Comfort is priced from €31,490 until December 31, with the starting price climbing to €32,490 ($37,400).
Starting with Lisbon and Porto, two showrooms will open in Portugal in the final days of November, JAP Group’s Board Member Jan Oehmicke said during the presentation.
Founded in 1904, JAP Group is also the distributor for several other Chinese brands, including Foton, the state-owned GAC Group, but also Omoda and Jaecoo.
Globally, Nio Group deliveries are expected to reach a new record for the fourth consecutive month.
Firefly, which sold just below 6,000 units in November, will reach a new record in November — the brand’s chief Daniel Jin said on Sunday.
